This book describes ggplot2, a new data visualization package for R that uses the insights from Leland Wilkisons Grammar of Graphics to create a powerful and flexible system for creating data graphics. With ggplot2, its easy to: produce handsome, publication-quality plots, with automatic legends created from the plot specification superpose multiple layers (points, lines, maps, tiles, box plots to name a few) from different data sources, with automatically adjusted common scales add customisable smoothers that use the powerful modelling capabilities of R, such as loess, linear models, generalised additive models and robust regression save any ggplot2 plot (or part thereof) for later modification or reuse create custom themes that capture in-house or journal style requirements, and that can easily be applied to multiple plots approach your graph from a visual perspective, thinking about how each component of the data is represented on the final plot. This book will be useful to everyone who has struggled with displaying their data in an informative and attractive way. You will need some basic knowledge of R (i.e. you should be able to get your data into R), but ggplot2 is a mini-language specifically tailored for producing graphics, and youll learn everything you need in the book. After reading this book youll be able to produce graphics customized precisely for your problems, and youll find it easy to get graphics out of your head and on to the screen or page.read more

TL;DR: Assessment of gut microbiomes from ∼900 vertebrate species, including 315 mammals and 491 birds, concludes that host-gut microbiome phylosymbiosis depends on factors convergently absent in birds and bats, potentially associated with physiological adaptations to flight.

Ebola Virus Glycoprotein with Increased Infectivity Dominated the 2013–2016 Epidemic
William E. Diehl,Aaron E. Lin,Nathan D. Grubaugh,Luiz Max Carvalho,Kyusik Kim,Pyae Phyo Kyawe,Sean M. McCauley,Elisa Donnard,Alper Kucukural,Patrick McDonel,Stephen F. Schaffner,Stephen F. TL;DR: GP-A82V was associated with increased mortality, consistent with the hypothesis that the heightened intrinsic infectivity of GP-A 82V contributed to disease severity during the EVD epidemic.

TL;DR: The diagnostic accuracy of chest imaging (computed tomography, X-ray and ultrasound) in people with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 disease was determined and uncertainty of the accuracy estimates was presented using 95% confidence intervals (CIs).

TL;DR: These findings challenge the claim that the accumulation of chromosomal rearrangements drive complete reproductive isolation, and promote equids as a fundamental model for understanding the interplay between chromosomal structure, gene flow, and, ultimately, speciation.

The Logic of Political Coverage on Twitter: Temporal Dynamics and Content
TL;DR: In this article, the temporal dynamics and content of Twitter messages follow a hybrid logic of political coverage, sometimes following the same logic as the coverage of political actors in traditional news media, whereas in other cases following a logic specific to political expression on the Internet.
