Sources of PAHs in the Environment
Mike Howsam,Kevin C. Jones +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors examine the thermal reactions involved in the release of PAHs, and include details of some important non-combustion sources, and assess the importance of historical monitoring techniques in providing information on the trends in emissions of PUHs.
Journal ArticleDOI
Roles of keratinocyte inflammation in oral cancer: regulating the prostaglandin E2, interleukin-6 and TNF-α production of oral epithelial cells by areca nut extract and arecoline
Jiiang-Huei Jeng,Ying Jan Wang,Bor-Luen Chiang,Po Hsuen Lee,Chiu Po Chan,Yuan Soon Ho,Tong-Mei Wang,Jang-Jaer Lee,L.J. Hahn,Mei Chi Chang +9 more
TL;DR: The results indicate that BQ chewing contributes to the pathogenesis of cancer and OSF by impairing T cell activation and by induction of PGE2, TNF-alpha and IL-6 production, which affect oral mucosal inflammation and growth of OMF and oral epithelial cells.
Journal ArticleDOI
Modulation of benzo[a]pyrene diolepoxide–DNA adduct levels in human white blood cells by CYP1A1, GSTM1 and GSTT1 polymorphism
Margarita Rojas,Ingolf Cascorbi,Kroum Alexandrov,E. Kriek,Guy Auburtin,Lucienne Mayer,Annette Kopp-Schneider,Ivar Roots,Helmut Bartsch +8 more
TL;DR: The modulation of benzo[a]pyrene diolepoxide (BPDE)-DNA adduct levels by polymorphisms in the CYP1A1, GSTM1 and GSTT1 genes was assessed in leukocytes of Caucasian males to suggest that these genotype combinations are at increased risk contracting lung cancer.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evaluation of exposure to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in a coke production and a graphite electrode manufacturing plant: assessment of urinary excretion of 1-hydroxypyrene as a biological indicator of exposure.
Jean-Pierre Buchet,J P Gennart,F Mercado-Calderon,J P Delavignette,L. Cupers,Robert Lauwerys +5 more
TL;DR: The determination of the urinary excretion of hydroxypyrene in postshift urine samples can be used as a suitable biomarker to assess individual exposure to PAHs in coke ovens and in graphite electrode manufacturing plants.
Journal ArticleDOI
Inhibition of cytochrome P450 isozymes by curcumins in vitro and in vivo.
R Thapliyal,G.B Maru +1 more
TL;DR: Turmeric/curcumin as in the case of isothiocyanate, PEITC, are likely to inhibit activation of carcinogens metabolized by CYP450 isozymes, namely, CYP 1A1, 1A2 and 2B1.
