Journal ArticleDOI

Indirect mechanism of lead-induced genotoxicity in cultured mammalian cells

TL;DR: At all endpoints tested, lead ions interfere with the processing of UV-induced DNA damage, indicating an inhibition of DNA repair, and point out the necessity to consider such indirect effects when assessing the genotoxicity of metal compounds.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of ethanol on the tumorigenicity of urethane (ethyl carbamate) in B6C3F1 mice

TL;DR: Ethanol induced a dose-dependent trend in hepatocellular adenoma or carcinoma in male mice, with the incidence being marginally increased at the highest dose, and in female mice administered 10 ppm and 90 ppm urethane, ethanol caused dose-related increases in alveolar/bronchiolar adenomas or carcinomas and hemangiosarcoma of the heart, respectively.

Methylation of cytochrome P4501A1 promoter in the lung is associated with tobacco smoking.

TL;DR: The association of tobacco smoking with CYP1A1 methylation in the lung suggests that promoter methylation is involved in the regulation of CYP 1A1 induction in vivo.
Journal ArticleDOI

Accumulation and distribution of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in rice (Oryza sativa).

TL;DR: Over the ripening period, PAH concentrations were increased in rice roots and decreased in most above-ground tissues, and there was a significant correlation between bioconcentration factor (BCF, plant over air) and octanol/air partitioning coefficient (Koa).
Journal ArticleDOI

Nature and nurture: possibilities for cancer control.

TL;DR: Attention is drawn to eight types of cancer that have become more common in the UK in the last 25 years, some of which the authors do not know how to prevent and which require urgent research.
