Journal ArticleDOI
Gut lactobacilli profile among a cohort of Egyptian patients with systemic lupus erythematosus
TL;DR: There was a significant decrease in the abundance of Lactobacilli and L. reuteri in patients with SLE, so supplementation of L lactobacillus might constitute a future therapeutic target.
Journal ArticleDOI
Interleukin-1 single nucleotide polymorphisms and risk of systemic lupus erythematosus among Iraqi patients
TL;DR: It is concluded that IL1A−889 SNP is associated with susceptibility to SLE, while,IL1B−511, IL1B+3962, IL2Rpsti 1970 and IL1RAmspa 11,100 SNPs may have no influence on SLE risk.
Regulatory T Cells in SLE
TL;DR: The use of antigen-specific Tregs as therapeutics in autoimmunity could also be applied to systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), a chronic inflammatory autoimmune disease estimated to affect 1 in 1000 people as mentioned in this paper.

[Clinical and immunological characteristics of systemic lupus erythematosus with retinopathy].
TL;DR: Wang et al. as discussed by the authors investigated the clinical and immunological characteristics of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients with retinopathy and found that the most common fundus ocular change of SLE patients with Retinopathy was cotton-wool spots (33/50, 66.0%), followed by intra-retinal hemorrhage (31/50 and 62.0%).
Journal ArticleDOI
Defining Renal Neoplastic Disease, One Cell at a Time: Mass Cytometry, a New Tool for the Study of Kidney Biology and Disease
TL;DR: A new platform now provides the targeted analysis of multidimensional protein expression through mass cytometry, which allows for the simultaneous determination of a series of targeted cellular parameters with single-cell resolution.

The 1982 revised criteria for the classification of systemic lupus erythematosus
Eng M. Tan,Alan S. Cohen,James F. Fries,Alfonse T. Masi,Dennis J. McShane,Naomi F. Rothfield,Jane G. Schaller,Norman Talal,Robert Winchester +8 more
TL;DR: The 1971 preliminary criteria for the classification of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) were revised and updated to incorporate new immunologic knowledge and improve disease classification and showed gains in sensitivity and specificity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Neutrophil extracellular traps kill bacteria
Volker Brinkmann,Ulrike Reichard,Christian Goosmann,Beatrix Fauler,Yvonne Uhlemann,David S. Weiss,Yvette Weinrauch,Yvette Weinrauch,Arturo Zychlinsky +8 more
TL;DR: It is described that, upon activation, neutrophils release granule proteins and chromatin that together form extracellular fibers that bind Gram-positive and -negative bacteria, which degrade virulence factors and kill bacteria.
Book
Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
TL;DR: Contributions are gathered from physicians and researchers from North America, South America, Europe, and Asia that highlight several important and/or novel aspects of the molecular pathogenesis, clinical organ involvement, and experimental therapies in this prototypical systemic autoimmune disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Interferon-inducible gene expression signature in peripheral blood cells of patients with severe lupus
Emily C. Baechler,Franak Batliwalla,George Karypis,Patrick M. Gaffney,Ward A. Ortmann,Karl J. Espe,Katherine B. Shark,William J. Grande,Karis M. Hughes,Vivek Kapur,Peter K. Gregersen,Timothy W. Behrens +11 more
TL;DR: Global gene expression profiling of peripheral blood mononuclear cells is used to identify distinct patterns of gene expression that distinguish most SLE patients from healthy controls, and identify a subgroup of patients who may benefit from therapies targeting the IFN pathway.
Journal ArticleDOI
Interferon and Granulopoiesis Signatures in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Blood
Lynda Bennett,A. Karolina Palucka,Edsel Arce,Edsel Arce,Victoria Cantrell,Victoria Cantrell,Josef Borvak,Jacques Banchereau,Virginia Pascual,Virginia Pascual +9 more
TL;DR: Microarray analysis of blood cells reveals that immature granulocytes may be involved in SLE pathogenesis, and the IFN signature confirms the central role of this cytokine in Sle, using oligonucleotide microarrays.
