TLDR
In this article, a review of tree physiological responses to key environmental stress factors and their combinations are analyzed from seedlings to mature trees, concluding that combined stresses can influence survival of large trees even more than chronic exposure to a single predictable stress such as drought.

Climate drivers of Douglas-fir growth in the western United States

TL;DR: In this paper, the relationship between tree growth and climate was analyzed at four spatial scales (plot, watershed, region, and continent) and three temporal scales (monthly, interannual, interdecadal).
Journal ArticleDOI

Light availability and soil flooding regulate photosynthesis of an imperiled shrub in lowland forests of the Mississippi Alluvial Valley, USA

TL;DR: Results showed that light availability and soil flooding interacted to affect PN, and similar PN between 0 d and 45 d flooded shrubs indicated physiological recovery following removal of flood water.
Book ChapterDOI

The Interactive Effects of Drought and Herbivory on Ecophysiology of Trees

TL;DR: The impacts from combined drought and herbivory were trait-specific, intensity-dependent, and unpredictable from the effects of single stressors, contrary to assumptions.
Journal ArticleDOI

Individual and interactive responses of woody plants' biomass and leaf traits to drought and shade

TL;DR: This article conducted a meta-analysis on the responses of woody seedlings to drought, aggravated or unaffected by shade, and found that the response of seedlings in woody plants to drought and/or shading was orthogonal.

Climate change 2007: the physical science basis

TL;DR: The first volume of the IPCC's Fourth Assessment Report as mentioned in this paper was published in 2007 and covers several topics including the extensive range of observations now available for the atmosphere and surface, changes in sea level, assesses the paleoclimatic perspective, climate change causes both natural and anthropogenic, and climate models for projections of global climate.

Chlorophyll fluorescence—a practical guide

TL;DR: An introduction for the novice into the methodology and applications of chlorophyll fluorescence is provided and a selection of examples are used to illustrate the types of information that fluorescence can provide.
