TLDR
In this article, a review of tree physiological responses to key environmental stress factors and their combinations are analyzed from seedlings to mature trees, concluding that combined stresses can influence survival of large trees even more than chronic exposure to a single predictable stress such as drought.

Warming increases the sensitivity of seedling growth capacity to rainfall in six temperate deciduous tree species.

TL;DR: It is indicated that, in the northeastern USA, dry years in a future warmer environment could have damaging effects on the growth capacity of early secondary successional forests, through species-specific effects on leaf production, herbivory and mortality.

Combined MODIS land surface temperature and greenness data for modeling vegetation phenology, physiology, and gross primary production in terrestrial ecosystems.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that remote sensing-based phenological and physiological indicators could be used to explain the variations of seasonal and annual GPP, and provide an efficient way for improving GPP estimations at a global scale.

Counting the costs of multiple stressors: is the whole greater than the sum of the parts?

TL;DR: Drought stress had most likely triggered a surge in the abundance of wood boring beetles, thereby amplifying declines in forest health during an already stressful event and representing complex interactions between abiotic and biotic factors.

Seasonality and facilitation drive tree establishment in a semi-arid floodplain savanna

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that interactions between tree seedlings and perennial grasses vary seasonally, and timing of tree germination may determine the importance of facilitation or competition in structuring savanna vegetation because of fluctuations in abiotic stress.

Climate change 2007: the physical science basis

TL;DR: The first volume of the IPCC's Fourth Assessment Report as mentioned in this paper was published in 2007 and covers several topics including the extensive range of observations now available for the atmosphere and surface, changes in sea level, assesses the paleoclimatic perspective, climate change causes both natural and anthropogenic, and climate models for projections of global climate.

Chlorophyll fluorescence—a practical guide

TL;DR: An introduction for the novice into the methodology and applications of chlorophyll fluorescence is provided and a selection of examples are used to illustrate the types of information that fluorescence can provide.
