Export of Algal Biomass from the Melting Arctic Sea Ice

TL;DR: Large-scale algal aggregates of the diatom Melosira arctica were observed hanging beneath multiyear and seasonal ice across a wide range of latitudes and a widespread deposition of ice algal biomass of on average 9 grams of carbon per square meter to the deep-sea floor of the central Arctic basins.
Journal ArticleDOI

State of the Climate in 2013

Jessica Blunden, +448 more
TL;DR: The State of the Climate for 2013 as discussed by the authors is a very low-resolution file and it can be downloaded in a few minutes for a high-resolution version of the report to download.

Arctic Ocean basin liquid freshwater storage trend 1992–2012

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors estimate a statistically reliable liquid freshwater trend from monthly gridded fields over all upper Arctic Ocean basins from 1992 to 2012, and find that a decrease in salinity made up about two thirds of the freshwater trend and a thickening of the upper layer up to one third.

An assessment of Arctic Ocean freshwater content changes from the 1990s to the 2006-2008 period and beyond

TL;DR: In this article, an unprecedented summer-season sampling of the Arctic Ocean during the period 2006-2008 makes possible a quasi-synoptic estimate of liquid freshwater (LFW) inventories in the arctic Ocean basins.
