Viau,Ricardo Villalba,Bo Møllesøe Vinther,Lucien von Gunten,Sebastian Wagner,Eugene R. Wahl,Heinz Wanner,Johannes P. Werner,James W. C. White,Koh Yasue,Eduardo Zorita +86 more
TL;DR: The authors reconstructed past temperatures for seven continental-scale regions during the past one to two millennia and found that the most coherent feature in nearly all of the regional temperature reconstructions is a long-term cooling trend, which ended late in the nineteenth century.
Journal ArticleDOI
Recent Warming Reverses Long-Term Arctic Cooling
Darrell S. Kaufman,David P. Schneider,Nicholas P. McKay,Caspar M. Ammann,Raymond S. Bradley,Keith R. Briffa,Gifford H. Miller,Bette L. Otto-Bliesner,Jonathan T. Overpeck,Bo Møllesøe Vinther +9 more
TL;DR: A synthesis of decadally resolved proxy temperature records from poleward of 60°N covering the past 2000 years indicates that a pervasive cooling in progress 2000 years ago continued through the Middle Ages and into the Little Ice Age.
Journal ArticleDOI
The time-transgressive termination of the African Humid Period
Timothy M. Shanahan,Nicholas P. McKay,Konrad A Hughen,Jonathan T. Overpeck,Bette L. Otto-Bliesner,Clifford W. Heil,John W. King,Christopher A. Scholz,John A. Peck +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, the termination of humidity was spatially variable, moving towards progressively lower latitudes in Africa during the early to mid-Holocene, during which Africa was more humid than today.
Journal ArticleDOI
A global multiproxy database for temperature reconstructions of the Common Era
Julien Emile-Geay,Nicholas P. McKay,Darrell S. Kaufman,Lucien von Gunten,Jianghao Wang,Kevin J. Anchukaitis,Nerilie J. Abram,Jason A. Addison,Mark A. J. Curran,Mark A. J. Curran,Michael N. TL;DR: A community-sourced database of temperature-sensitive proxy records from the PAGES2k initiative, suited to investigations of global and regional temperature variability over the Common Era, and is shared in the Linked Paleo Data (LiPD) format, including serializations in Matlab, R and Python.
Journal ArticleDOI
Consistent multi-decadal variability in global temperature reconstructions and simulations over the Common Era.
Raphael Neukom,Luis A. Barboza,M. P. Erb,Feng Shi,Julien Emile-Geay,Michael N. Evans,Jörg Franke,Darrell S. Kaufman,Lucie J. Lücke,Kira Rehfeld,Andrew Schurer,Feng Zhu,Stefan Brönnimann,Gregory J. Hakim,Benjamin J. Henley,Fredrik Charpentier Ljungqvist,Nicholas P. McKay,Veronika Valler,Lucien von Gunten +18 more
TL;DR: Reconstructions and simulations qualitatively agree on the amplitude of the unforced global mean multidecadal temperature variability, thereby increasing confidence in future projections of climate change on these timescales.
