TL;DR: The hypothesis that both bipolar and schizophrenia patients have a significantly higher expression of this isoform than controls is confirmed and the risk alleles in ANK3 identified by bipolar disorder GWAS are located near the transcription start site and are significantly associated with its elevated expression.

TL;DR: The present findings provide further support for a role of the α7nAChR in schizophrenia and show a genetic link between CHRNA7 and startle magnitude, indicating that cholinergic neurotransmission involving theα7n aChR could be involved in sensory registration processes.
