TL;DR: This Research Article demonstrated the antifouling advantages of zwitterionic SPANI and aimed to provide a simple method for the large scale preparation of zWitterionic antIFouling ultrafiltration membranes.
Abstract: On the basis of the excellent fouling resistance of zwitterionic materials, the super antifouling polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membrane was efficiently prepared though one-step sulfonation of PVDF and polyaniline blend membrane in situ. The self-doped sulfonated polyaniline (SPANI) was generated as a novel zwitterionic polymer to improve the antifouling property of PVDF ultrafiltration membrane used in sewage treatment. Surface attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, surface zeta potential, and water contact angle demonstrated the successful fabrication of zwitterionic interface by convenient sulfonation modification. The static adsorption fouling test showed the quantified adsorption mass of bovine serum albumin (BSA) pollutant on the PVDF/SPANI membrane surface decreases to 3(±2) μg/cm2, and the water flux recovery ratio (FRR) values were no less than 95% for the three model pollutants of BSA, sodium alginate (SA), and humic acid (HA), whi...

TL;DR: In this article, the authors demonstrate that grain boundary engineering results in higher power generation efficiencies despite serious interest in using the strategy to improve zT, using both Yb 2 O 3 nanoprecipitates that decorate grain boundaries and carbon nanotubes to further reduce thermal conductivity and improve mechanical strength.

TL;DR: In this article, the bending and failure behavior of polymorphic honeycomb topologies consisting of gradient variations of the horizontal rib length and cell internal across the surface of the cellular structures was described.
Abstract: We describe the bending and failure behaviour of polymorphic honeycomb topologies consisting of gradient variations of the horizontal rib length and cell internal across the surface of the cellular structures. The novel cores were used to manufacture sandwich beams subjected to three-point bending tests. Full-scale nonlinear Finite Element models were also developed to simulate the flexural and failure behaviour of the sandwich structures. Good agreement was observed between the experimental and FE model results. And the validated numerical model was then used to perform a parametric analysis on the influence of the gradient core geometry over the mechanical performance of the structures. It was found that the aspect ratio and the extent of gradient (i.e. the horizontal rib length growth rate or the internal angle increment) have a significant influence on the flexural properties of the sandwich panels with angle gradient cores.

TL;DR: Graphene and polymers can be integrated into a thin film which mimics both the mechanical self-healing and pressure sensitivity behavior of natural skin without any external power supply and demonstrates highly stable sensitivity to a very light touch.
Abstract: Artificial skin, which mimics the functions of natural skin, will be very important in the future for robots used by humans in daily life. However, combining skin's pressure sensitivity and mechanical self-healing properties in a man-made material remains a challenging task. Here, we show that graphene and polymers can be integrated into a thin film which mimics both the mechanical self-healing and pressure sensitivity behavior of natural skin without any external power supply. Its ultimate strain and tensile strength are even two and ten times larger than the corresponding values of human skin, respectively. It also demonstrates highly stable sensitivity to a very light touch (0.02 kPa), even in bending or stretching states.

TL;DR: In vitro dissolution tests demonstrated that the fibers from the modified coaxial process exhibited better sustained-release profiles with a smaller initial burst effect and less tailing-off release compared with those from the single process.
