TL;DR: X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray studies provide information about the intercalation of the cation apart from the reported anion in the polymer film, and on how the imidazolium ion controls the growth of PEDOT nanostructures.
Abstract: We report a facile method to synthesize poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) films at room temperature in a waterproof ionic liquid, 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(perfluoroethylsulfonyl)imide (EMIPFSI), by electropolymerization. The ionic liquid leads to the formation of randomly oriented nanofibers and particles confined to submicrometer-sized domains in the film microstructure. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) studies provide information about the intercalation of the cation apart from the reported anion in the polymer film, and on how the imidazolium ion controls the growth of PEDOT nanostructures.

TL;DR: In this paper, the concentrations of sixteen polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and trace metals adsorbed to respirable particulate matter (PM≤ 10μm) and the fine fraction of PM≤ 2.5μm were determined at a site in Delhi (India) during the winter and summer periods in 2007-2008.

TL;DR: In this paper, a synthesizer of precision ac waveforms based on a binary superconductor insulator-normal metal-insulator-superconductor (SINIS) Josephson junction array has been developed.
Abstract: A synthesizer of precision ac waveforms based on a binary superconductor insulator-normal metal-insulator-superconductor (SINIS) Josephson junction array has been developed. The array segments are individually biased using a high-speed bias source which gives a switching time of approximately 250 ns between voltage steps. The accuracy limitations of the system due to limited risetime and bandwidth are discussed. Comparisons between the synthesizer and a planar multijunction thermal converter (PMJTC) indicate that it is possible to synthesize sine waves with known rms value having an accuracy in the range of 1 part in 10/sup 7/.

TL;DR: Using a very low concentration of potassium persulfate as initiator, acrylamide could be efficiently grafted onto potato starch under microwave irradiation and for the grafting O 2 removal from the reaction vessel was not required.
Abstract: Using a very low concentration of potassium persulfate as initiator, acrylamide could be efficiently grafted onto potato starch under microwave irradiation and for the grafting O 2 removal from the reaction vessel was not required. Under optimal conditions, grafting and efficiency observed were 160% and 89%, respectively. Grafted starch was characterized by using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). It was observed that the microwave irradiation could significantly accelerate the synthesis of starch-graft-poly(acrylamide), because under identical conditions no grafting was observed in a conventional procedure. Viscosity, shear stability and water/saline solution retention of the microwave-synthesized grafted starch were studied and compared with that of the parent starch.

TL;DR: The excellent steam oxidation resistance of iron aluminide coatings on ferritic steels at 650°C has been demonstrated both by laboratory tests and field exposure as discussed by the authors, and these coatings are formed by the application of an Al slurry followed by diffusion heat treatment at 700°C for 10h.
Abstract: The excellent steam oxidation resistance of iron aluminide coatings on ferritic steels at 650 °C has been demonstrated both by laboratory tests and field exposure. These coatings are formed by the application of an Al slurry followed by diffusion heat treatment at 700 °C for 10 h. The resulting microstructure is mostly composed of Fe2Al5 on top of a much thinner FeAl layer. This coating exhibits perpendicular cracks due to thermal expansion mismatch between coating and substrate. However, these stress relieving cracks do not seem to have an effect on the mechanical properties of the substrate. Cyclic oxidation, creep resistance and TMF testing of these coatings at 650 °C indicate excellent performance.
