TL;DR: This work has identified eukaryotic elongation factor 1A and tRNA as RanGTP‐dependent binding partners of exportin‐5 (Exp5), and shows that there exists an alternative tRNA export pathway which can be exploited to keep eEF1A out of the cell nucleus.
Abstract: Transport of proteins and RNA into and out of the cell nucleus is mediated largely by a family of RanGTP-binding transport receptors. Export receptors (exportins) need to bind RanGTP for efficient loading of their export cargo. We have identified eukaryotic elongation factor 1A (eEF1A) and tRNA as RanGTP-dependent binding partners of exportin-5 (Exp5). Exp5 stimulates nuclear export of eEF1A when microinjected into the nucleus of Xenopus laevis oocytes. Surprisingly, the interaction between eEF1A and Exp5 is dependent on tRNA that can interact directly with Exp5 and, if aminoacylated, recruits eEF1A into the export complex. These data suggested to us that Exp5 might support tRNA export. Indeed, not only the canonical tRNA export receptor, exportin-t, but also Exp5 can drive nuclear export of tRNA. Taken together, we show that there exists an alternative tRNA export pathway which can be exploited to keep eEF1A out of the cell nucleus.

TL;DR: In this paper, a search for heavy Majorana neutrinos in events containing a pair of high-p(T) leptons of the same charge and high p(t) jets is presented, which is consistent with the background-only hypothesis based on the Standard Model expectation.
Abstract: A search for heavy Majorana neutrinos in events containing a pair of high-p(T) leptons of the same charge and high-p(T) jets is presented. The search uses 20.3 fb(-1) of pp collision data collected with the ATLAS detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider with a centre-of-mass energy of root s = 8TeV. The data are found to be consistent with the background-only hypothesis based on the Standard Model expectation. In the context of a Type-I seesaw mechanism, limits are set on the production cross-section times branching ratio for production of heavy Majorana neutrinos in the mass range between 100 and 500 GeV. The limits are subsequently interpreted as limits on the mixing between the heavy Majorana neutrinos and the Standard Model neutrinos. In the context of a left-right symmetric model, limits on the production cross-section times branching ratio are set with respect to the masses of heavy Majorana neutrinos and heavy gauge bosons W-R and Z'.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors reported that the severity of the 2009 and 2010 China drought was particularly severe in southwestern and northern China, where the accumulated precipitation from May 2009 to April 2010 was about 25% less than normal.
Abstract: Several provinces of China experienced an intense drought episode during 2009 and 2010. The drought was particularly severe in southwestern and northern China, where the accumulated precipitation from May 2009 to April 2010 was about 25% less than normal. The decline of accumulated precipitation over northern China was mostly noticeable during the summer season of 2009 and it was comparable to recent dry episodes. The southwestern China drought resulted from a sequence of dry months from summer 2009 to winter 2010, corresponding to the driest event since at least 1951. The suppression of rainfall in summer over both regions was in agreement with a weakened broad-scale South Asian summer monsoon, possibly influenced by an El Nino developing phase, whereas the extremely negative phases of the Arctic Oscillation during the winter of 2010 may have contributed to the persistence of the drought in southwestern China. The assessment of the associated impacts indicates that water reservoirs were severely ...

TL;DR: In this paper, an overview of global angular momentum and energy balance requirements deduced through observations is presented, including the structure of the basic circulation, the temperature, humidity, and kinetic energy fields, both regarding their long-term mean values and their day-to-day and seasonal variability characteristics.
Abstract: Publisher Summary This chapter presents an overview of global angular momentum and energy balance requirements deduced through observations. The structure of the basic circulation, the temperature, humidity, and kinetic energy fields, both regarding their long-term mean values and their day-to-day and seasonal variability characteristics, are discussed. Following this, the three-dimensional structure of the transports by the transient eddy, stationary eddy, and mean meridional circulations are explained. The chapter describes how the source regions of incoming solar radiation and the sink regions of outgoing terrestrial radiation are distributed over the globe, and how the atmosphere and oceans respond to these forcing factors. It also explores what happens to the solar energy once it has entered the atmosphere. The storage and transport of energy in the atmosphere is analyzed, followed by a discussion on the amount of energy that flows into the underlying surface. The storage and transport of energy in the oceans is also discussed..
