TL;DR: In this paper, the performance of LaCoO3-based catalysts in ethanol combustion and their selectivity to acetaldehyde formation can be explained on the basis of the presence of both α-oxygen species and sites with basic character on the material surface.
Abstract: Ce- or Sr-doped LaCoO3 bulk perovskites were prepared by citric acid method as well as 10 wt.% of LaCoO3 was deposited on alumina carrier stabilized with lanthanum. Properties of prepared materials were characterized by determination of surface area, acid-basic properties and XRD, XPS, TPDO2, H2-TPR measurements as well as catalytic activity and selectivity for ethanol combustion was tested. It was found that substitution of La in LaCoO3 with either Sr or Ce has only small effect on its activity in ethanol combustion. Strontium inserted into LaCoO3 structure increases basic character of the perovskite surface as well as selectivity to acetaldehyde (ACA). Substitution of La with cerium has no effect on the concentration of basic sites and does not affect the selectivity to ACA. Activity of LaCoO3-based catalysts in ethanol combustion and their selectivity to ACA formation can be explained on the basis of the presence of both α-oxygen species and sites with basic character on the material surface. Acid-basic properties of supported LaCoO3 are dominated by acidic character of the carrier. Results of XPS and H2-TPR measurements of LaCoO3 supported on La–Al2O3 suggest that perovskite remains in strong interaction with carrier and probably is partially decomposed. Deposition of perovskite on stabilized carrier significantly increases the rate of ethanol combustion.

TL;DR: The biological activity and natural occurrence of aminophosphonic acids were described half a century ago as mentioned in this paper, and since then the chemistry and biology of this class of compounds have developed into the separate field of phosphorus chemistry.
Abstract: The biological activity and natural occurrence of the aminophosphonic acids were described half a century ago. Since then the chemistry and biology of this class of compounds have developed into the separate field of phosphorus chemistry. Today it is well acknowledged that these compounds possess a wide variety of promising, and in some cases commercially useful, physiological activities. Thus, they have found applications ranging from agrochemical (with the herbicides glyphosate and bialaphos being the most prominent examples) to medicinal (with the potent antihypertensive fosinopril and antiosteoporetic bisphosphonates being examples).

TL;DR: In this article, a heat and mass transfer model for grain drying in a spouted bed dryer with a draft tube was used. But the model was only applied to predict gas−solid flow behavior.
Abstract: For a description of the heat and mass transfer occurring during the drying of grain in a spouted bed dryer with a draft tube, a CFD modeling technique was used. The Eulerian−Eulerian multifluid modeling approach was applied to predict gas−solid flow behavior. A heat- and mass-transfer model was added as compiled executable code by means of UDF programming to FLUENT 6.1, expanding its abilities. Moisture was treated as UDS, and its transport in each phase and exchange between phases were predicted. The kinetics of drying was described by classical and diffusional models for periods I and II of drying, respectively. Results of the simulations were compared with experimental data and with values obtained from various correlations. CFD simulations predict very well the mass-transfer rate but underpredict the heat-transfer rate. Predicted values of the Nusselt and Sherwood numbers are above 2, in agreement with theory. The heat- and mass-transfer rates obtained from the correlations and CFD simulations were u...

TL;DR: While multiple colinearities exist between the assessed methods, multimodal monitoring of cerebral autoregulation can aid in predicting DCI.
Abstract: In patients after subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) failure of cerebral autoregulation is associated with delayed cerebral ischemia (DCI). Various methods of assessing autoregulation are available, but their predictive values remain unknown. We characterize the relationship between different indices of autoregulation. Patients with SAH within 5 days were included in a prospective study. The relationship between three indices of autoregulation was analyzed: two indices calculated using spontaneous blood pressure fluctuations, Sxa (based on transcranial Doppler) and TOxa (based on near-infrared spectroscopy); and transient hyperemic response test (THRT) where a brief compression of the common carotid artery is used. The predictive value of indices was assessed using data from the first 5 days. Overall there was only moderate correlation between indices. However, both Sxa and TOxa showed good accuracy in predicting impaired autoregulation evidenced by a negative THRT (area under the curve (AUC): 0.788, 95% CI: 0.723 to 0.854 and AUC: 0.827, 95% CI: 0.769 to 0.885, respectively). All indices proved accurate in predicting DCI when 0- to 5-day data were used (AUC: 0.801, 95% CI: 0.660 to 0.942; AUC: 0.857, 95% CI: 0.731 to 0.984, AUC: 0.796, 95% CI: 0.658 to 0.934 for THRT, Sxa, and TOxa, respectively). Combining all three indices had 100% specificity for predicting DCI. While multiple colinearities exist between the assessed methods, multimodal monitoring of cerebral autoregulation can aid in predicting DCI.
