TL;DR: It is shown that torsional oscillations can be successfully suppressed in the proposed control structure, using only one basic feedback from the motor speed given by the proposed speed estimator.
Abstract: In this paper, the concept of a model reference adaptive control of a sensorless induction motor (IM) drive with elastic joint is proposed. An adaptive speed controller uses fuzzy neural network equipped with an additional option for online tuning of its chosen parameters. A sliding-mode neuro-fuzzy controller is used as the speed controller, whose connective weights are trained online according to the error between the estimated motor speed and the speed given by the reference model. The speed of the vector-controlled IM is estimated using the MRASCC rotor speed and a flux estimator. Such a control structure is proposed to damp torsional vibrations in a two-mass system in an effective way. It is shown that torsional oscillations can be successfully suppressed in the proposed control structure, using only one basic feedback from the motor speed given by the proposed speed estimator. Simulation results are verified by experimental tests over a wide range of motor speed and drive parameter changes.

TL;DR: In this paper, the short-term forecasting power of different time series models in the electricity spot market is assessed, and it is shown that non-linear, threshold regime-switching (TAR/TARX) models outperform their linear counterparts.
Abstract: In this paper we assess the short-term forecasting power of different time series models in the electricity spot market. In particular we calibrate AR/ARX ("X" stands for exogenous/fundamental variable—system load in our study), AR/ARX-GARCH, TAR/TARX and Markov regime-switching models to California Power Exchange (CalPX) system spot prices. We then use them for out-ofsample point and interval forecasting in normal and extremely volatile periods preceding the market crash in winter 2000/2001. We find evidence that (i) non-linear, threshold regime-switching (TAR/TARX) models outperform their linear counterparts, both in point and interval forecasting, and that (ii) an additional GARCH component generally decreases point forecasting efficiency. Interestingly, the former result challenges a number of previously published studies on the failure of non-linear regime-switching models in forecasting.

TL;DR: In this paper, a new idea of increasing operational bandwidth of a compact planar inverted F antenna (PIFA) by introducing open-end slots in the ground plane under the radiating patch is described.
Abstract: This letter describes a new idea of increasing operational bandwidth of a compact planar inverted F antenna (PIFA) by introducing open-end slots in the ground plane under the radiating patch. The slots are not in the way of active modules of a wireless transceiver and thus the proposed antenna size reduction method is attractive from the point of view of practical implementation.

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of kind of carrier on activity in the ethanol oxidation and on selectivity to acetaldehyde (ACA) was determined, and a relation between the TPR properties of the catalysts and their activity in ethanol conversion was suggested.
Abstract: MnOx catalysts supported on alumina, titania or yttria-stabilised zirconia were studied in ethanol oxidation. Catalysts were characterized by determining their XRD, TPR, TPD-O2 and TPD-NH3 properties and light-off behavior. The effect of kind of carrier on activity in the ethanol oxidation and on selectivity to acetaldehyde (ACA) was determined. Relation between the TPR properties of the catalysts and their activity in ethanol conversion is suggested. The maximum of selectivity to ACA appears in the same sequence of temperatures as the first peak of oxygen desorption from supported MnOx catalysts.
