TL;DR: In this article, a planar cavity quantum electrodynamics (cQED) system based on a low density In0.3Ga 0.7As quantum layer placed as the active layer in a high quality planar AlAs/GaAs distributed Bragg reflector cavity grown by molecular beam epitaxy is described.
Abstract: Properties of atom-like emitters in cavities are successfully described by cavity quantum electrodynamics (cQED). We
report on cavity quantum electrodynamics (cQED) experiments in a single quantum dot semiconductor system. CQED,
which is a very active research field in optics and solid state physics, can be divided into a weak and a strong coupling
regime. In case of weak coupling, the spontaneous emission rate of an atom-like emitter, e.g. a single quantum dot
exciton, can be enhanced or reduced compared to the value in vacuum in an irreversible emission process. In contrast, a
reversible energy exchange between the emitter and the cavity mode takes place when the conditions for strong coupling
are fulfilled. We investigate weak as well as strong coupling in a system based on a low density In0.3Ga 0.7As quantum
dot layer placed as the active layer in a high quality planar AlAs/GaAs distributed Bragg reflector cavity grown by
molecular beam epitaxy. Using electron beam lithography and deep plasma etching, micropillars with high Q-factors
(up to 43.000 for 4 μm diameter) were realized from the planar cavity structure. Due to the high oscillator strength of
the In0.3Ga 0.7As quantum dots together with a small mode volume in high finesse micropillar cavities it is possible to
observe strong coupling characterized by a vacuum Rabi splitting of 140 μeV. The fabrication of high-Q micropillar
cavities as well as conditions necessary to realize strong coupling in the present system are discussed in detail.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the link between pyrolysis conditions, the chemical and mineralogical composition of their products and the benefits of pyroolysis in the waste management sector.
Abstract: The fundamentals of pyrolysis, its latest developments, the different conditions of the process and its residues are of great importance in evaluating the applicability of the pyrolysis process within the waste management sector and in waste treatment. In particular the types of residue and their further use or treatment is of extreme interest as they could become the source of secondary raw materials or be used for energy generation in waste treatments. The main area of focus of this paper is the investigation of the link between the pyrolysis conditions, the chemical and mineralogical composition of their products and the benefits of pyrolysis in the waste management sector. More specifically the paper covers the fast, intermediate and slow pyrolysis of organic waste and mixtures of inorganic and organic waste from households. The influence of catalysts during fast pyrolysis on the product yield and composition is not being considered in this review.

TL;DR: It is experimentally shown that BP exhibits saturable absorption in the 2 μm wavelength range and supports ultrashort pulse generation and might be considered as a universal broadband saturable absorber that could successfully compete with graphene or other low-dimension nanomaterials.
Abstract: We report, for the first time to our knowledge, the usage of black phosphorus (BP) as a saturable absorber for the mode locking of a thulium-doped fiber laser. We have experimentally shown that BP exhibits saturable absorption in the 2 μm wavelength range and supports ultrashort pulse generation. The saturable absorber was based on mechanically exfoliated BP deposited on a fiber connector tip. The laser was capable of generating 739 fs pulses centered at 1910 nm. Our results show that BP might be considered as a universal broadband saturable absorber that could successfully compete with graphene or other low-dimension nanomaterials.

TL;DR: Unstructured kinetic models to describe microalgal culture system including photoautotrophic, heterotrophic and mixotrophic specific growth rate as a function of light intensity and glucose concentration were proposed and demonstrated that the light intensity for autotrophic culture was 30–50 W m−2, glucose concentration forheterotrophic growth was >0.5 g l−1 and for mixotroph growth of Spirulina sp.
