Frequency domain equalization for single-carrier broadband wireless systems
TLDR
This article surveys frequency domain equalization (FDE) applied to single-carrier (SC) modulation solutions and discusses similarities and differences of SC and OFDM systems and coexistence possibilities, and presents examples of SC-FDE performance capabilities.Abstract:
Broadband wireless access systems deployed in residential and business environments are likely to face hostile radio propagation environments, with multipath delay spread extending over tens or hundreds of bit intervals. Orthogonal frequency-division multiplex (OFDM) is a recognized multicarrier solution to combat the effects of such multipath conditions. This article surveys frequency domain equalization (FDE) applied to single-carrier (SC) modulation solutions. SC radio modems with frequency domain equalization have similar performance, efficiency, and low signal processing complexity advantages as OFDM, and in addition are less sensitive than OFDM to RF impairments such as power amplifier nonlinearities. We discuss similarities and differences of SC and OFDM systems and coexistence possibilities, and present examples of SC-FDE performance capabilities.read more

TL;DR: This paper theoretically analyze and discusses the trade-off for OFDM/TDM using MMSE-FDE between the channel capacity and the PAPR in a nonlinear and frequency-selective fading channel, and achieves a larger capacity with a lower P APR in comparison with the conventional OFDM.

Combined Effect of Transmit Diversity and Frequency Hopping for DFT-Precoded OFDMA in Uplink Frequency-Selective Fading Channels
TL;DR: It is shown that STBC with FH and DFCE achieves much better BLER performance than CL transmit diversity when fD is higher than approximately 80 Hz due to the degradation in the tracking ability against fast fading variation in the feedback loop of CL transmit Diversity.

Performance analysis of multi-ary systems with iterative linear minimum-mean-square-error detection
TL;DR: In this article, the impact of signaling schemes on the performance of low-cost iterative linear minimum-mean-square-error (LMMSE) detection is studied, and it is shown that superposition coded modulation (SCM) maximizes the output signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of LMMSE detectors.
