Pancreatic cancer: A review of clinical diagnosis, epidemiology, treatment and outcomes

TL;DR: This review aims to outline the most up-to-date knowledge of pancreatic adenocarcinoma risk, diagnostics, treatment and outcomes, while identifying gaps that aim to stimulate further research in this understudied malignancy.

TL;DR: A conservative approach is recommended for asymptomatic MCN and IPMN, and Lifelong follow-up of IPMN is recommended in patients who are fit for surgery.

Pancreatic adenocarcinoma, Version 2.2021

Margaret A. Tempero, +35 more
Abstract: Pancreatic cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer-related death among men and women in the United States. A major challenge in treatment remains patients' advanced disease at diagnosis. The NCCN Guidelines for Pancreatic Adenocarcinoma provides recommendations for the diagnosis, evaluation, treatment, and follow-up for patients with pancreatic cancer. Although survival rates remain relatively unchanged, newer modalities of treatment, including targeted therapies, provide hope for improving patient outcomes. Sections of the manuscript have been updated to be concordant with the most recent update to the guidelines. This manuscript focuses on the available systemic therapy approaches, specifically the treatment options for locally advanced and metastatic disease.

New techniques and future perspective of eus for the differential diagnosis of pancreatic malignancies: contrast harmonic imaging

TL;DR: In this article, a contrast-enhanced harmonic EUS system was used to diagnose pancreatic carcinomas as hypovascular masses with a high sensitivity (89-96%) and specificity (64-88%).

Genetic analysis of invasive carcinoma arising in intraductal oncocytic papillary neoplasm of the pancreas.

TL;DR: Results suggest that intraductal oncocytic papillary neoplasms is a neoplasm with genetic changes that are distinct from typical pancreatic adenocarcinoma.

Effects of Comorbidities on Outcomes of Patients With Intraductal Papillary Mucinous Neoplasms

TL;DR: The CACI can be used to identify patients with a high risk of death from factors other than IPMNs within a few years after diagnosis, and these patients are therefore not likely to benefit from further IPMN observation or pancreatic resection.

Long-term surgical outcome of noninvasive and minimally invasive intraductal papillary mucinous adenocarcinoma of the pancreas.

TL;DR: Noninvasive and minimally invasive intraductal papillary mucinous adenocarcinoma had a favorable prognosis after surgical treatment.
