Journal ArticleDOI

Mutagenicity of Helicobacter hepaticus infection in the lower bowel mucosa of 129/SvEv Rag2−/‐Il10−/− gpt delta mice is influenced by sex

TL;DR: Elevated Tnfα and iNos responses and bacterial genotoxins, in concert with suppression of the DSB repair responses, may have promoted mutagenesis in the lower bowel mucosa of Hh‐infected male RagIl10gpt mice.
Posted ContentDOI

A bacterial inflammation sensor regulates c-di-GMP signaling, adhesion, and biofilm formation.

TL;DR: The ability of bacteria to use CZB protein domains to perceive and thwart the host neutrophilic respiratory burst has implications for understanding the mechanisms of diseases of chronic inflammation and gut dysbiosis.
Posted ContentDOI

Lifestyle-specific S-nitrosylation of protein cysteine thiols regulates Escherichia coli biofilm formation and resistance to oxidative stress

TL;DR: It is revealed that impairing S-nitrosylation in proteins involved in redox homeostasis and amino acid synthesis altered important biofilm properties, including motility, biofilm maturation or resistance to oxidative stress.
Journal ArticleDOI

The role of major virulence factors and pathogenicity of adherent-invasive Escherichia coli in patients with Crohn's disease.

TL;DR: Recent findings that indicate the role and mechanisms of AIEC in IBD are discussed and AIEC virulence factor genes and mechanisms that suggest an important role in the severity of inflammation in CD patients are highlighted.

One-step inactivation of chromosomal genes in Escherichia coli K-12 using PCR products

TL;DR: A simple and highly efficient method to disrupt chromosomal genes in Escherichia coli in which PCR primers provide the homology to the targeted gene(s), which should be widely useful, especially in genome analysis of E. coli and other bacteria.
Journal ArticleDOI

A broad host range mobilization system for in vivo genetic engineering: transposon mutagenesis in Gram negative bacteria

TL;DR: In this paper, a new vector strategy for the insertion of foreign genes into the genomes of gram negative bacteria not closely related to Escherichia coli was developed, which can utilize any gram negative bacterium as a recipient for conjugative DNA transfer.
Journal ArticleDOI

Diversity of the human intestinal microbial flora.

TL;DR: A majority of the bacterial sequences corresponded to uncultivated species and novel microorganisms, and significant intersubject variability and differences between stool and mucosa community composition were discovered.
Journal ArticleDOI

Obesity alters gut microbial ecology

TL;DR: Analysis of the microbiota of genetically obese ob/ob mice, lean ob/+ and wild-type siblings, and their ob/+ mothers, all fed the same polysaccharide-rich diet, indicates that obesity affects the diversity of the gut microbiota and suggests that intentional manipulation of community structure may be useful for regulating energy balance in obese individuals.
Journal ArticleDOI

Molecular-phylogenetic characterization of microbial community imbalances in human inflammatory bowel diseases

TL;DR: Patient stratification by GI microbiota provides further evidence that CD represents a spectrum of disease states and suggests that treatment of some forms of IBD may be facilitated by redress of the detected microbiological imbalances.
