Abstract: Aim: To determine the relationship between metabolic syndrome (MS) and erectile dysfunction (ED) and to see which risk factors correlated the best with ED. Methods: Seventy-nine cardiology clinic outpatients with coronaryartery disease (CAD) and lipid metabolism disorder were recruited. They were categorized as having MS, hypertension (blood pressure greater than 130/85 mmHg) and dyslipidemia. ED was classified based on International Index of Erectile Function scores. Patients were grouped into quartiles based on body mass index (BMI). Chi-square, Pearson's correlation and regression tests were used for statistical analysis. Results: The mean age of the patients was 56.6 years. ED was diagnosed in 59 (74.7 %) of the 79 patients. In the 38 patients with MS, all had ED. ED was not significantly correlated with cholesterol levels (P > 0.05), but was found often in patients who had both hypercholesterolemia and HT (P 0.05). Tweenty-two of the 23 patients who had BMI greater than 30 had ED, which was significantly more prevalent than that in those who had normal BMI (P 0.5). Conclusion: ED is present in a high percentage of patients with MS. Among multiple 'risk factors for ED, MS correlates the most highly. The next most important risk group is the patients with hypertension +hypercholestrolemia and obesity (BMI > 30).

Abstract: The Dagkuplu Melange in the Central Sakarya Valley represents the northernmost outcrops of the Izmir-Ankara Suture Belt in northwest Anatolia. In addition to blocks and slivers of serpentinite, gabbro, blueschist, neritic and pelagic limestones, it includes blocks of basic volcanic rocks associated with radiolarian cherts, pelagic carbonates and mudstones. The preliminary geochemical data revealed the existence of a variety of basaltic rocks with magma types ranging in composition of MORB, IAT, OIB and CAB, in the melange. The age of the radiolarian assemblage from a tectonic block of chert-mudstone alternation associated with OIB-type basalts within the melange is assigned to early Berriasian - early Hauterivian, based on the co-occurrence of radiolarian taxa as Angulobracchia sp. cf. A. (?) portmanni, Godia nodocentrum, Pantanellium masirahense, Thanarla brouweri, Pseudoeucyrtis hanni, Svinitzium mizutanii, Mirifusus dianae s.l., Tethysetta boesii. Another block of chert-mudstone alternation associated with MORB-type basalts includes the following Cenomanian radiolarian fauna: Thanarla pulchra, Novixitus mclaughlini, Pseudodictyomitra pseudomacrocephala, Pseudodictyomitra tiara, Stichomitra communis. New findings from the Central Sakarya area combined with previous data of the authors reveal that the Izmir-Ankara Ocean started to open already in the Late Triassic. The formation of OIB-type intra-plate seamounts within the Izmir-Ankara Ocean began in late Bathonian and persisted until early Aptian. The the intra-oceanic subduction and the generation of supra-subduction-type volcanism started in early Santonian and the spreading-ridge of the Izmir-Ankara Ocean plate was not subducted until the Cenomanian.

Abstract: Recovery of social functioning is a largely unattained goal in schizophrenia rehabilitation. In the recent past, new neurocognitive and social cognitive training approaches have been introduced to improve functioning in various domains of patients' social life. These programs have neglected, to some degree, the social environment in which the training takes place. Accordingly, the present study sought to examine if family-assisted social cognitive training could improve quality of life, social functioning and social cognition in schizophrenia patients as compared to a social stimulation approach. In a randomized, controlled, parallel group trial design with two groups, one receiving family-assisted social cognitive training once a week (F-SCIT) and the other, social stimulation once every three weeks (SS), both for 14-weeks period, patients were assessed at baseline, before randomization and 16weeks after randomization. Participants were recruited from Celal Bayar University Psychosis Unit and were in a clinically stable condition. Patients who received F-SCIT significantly improved in quality of life, social functioning and social cognition, whereas the SS group worsened in nearly all outcome variables. Family-assisted SCIT is effective in improving quality of life, social functioning and social cognition.

Abstract: In this study, mixed convection in a cavity that has a fluid and superposed porous medium with an adiabatic rotating cylinder is numerically investigated. The bottom horizontal wall is heated and the top horizontal wall is cooled while the remaining walls are assumed to be adiabatic. An adiabatic rotating cylinder is inserted inside the cavity. The governing equations are solved by the Galerkin weighted residual finite element method. The effects of Rayleigh number (between 103 and 106), angular rotational speed of the cylinder (between 0 and 6,000), Darcy number (between 10−5 and 10−2), cylinder sizes (between R = 0.1 and R = 0.3) and three different vertical locations of the cylinder on the fluid flow and heat transfers characteristics are numerically investigated. It is observed that the cylinder size has a profound effect on the local and averaged heat transfer.
