TL;DR: In this study, geometrical features are extracted from ear image and compared considering an arbitrary image as new entry and 100% accuracy is achieved for a group of 10 subjects.
Abstract: A preliminary study of ear based recognition system is reported here. The texture of external ear does not vary with age, obesity, disease, expression etc. unlike other common biometric parameters. So it is expected that ear has a good potential as a biometric parameter. In this study, geometrical features are extracted from ear image and compared considering an arbitrary image as new entry. The problem of occlusion due to jewelry is counteracted by a feature based empirical formulation explained the method section. Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) based comparison method is used for classification and 100% accuracy is achieved for a group of 10 subjects.

TL;DR: In this article, a discussion regarding tribological and corrosion behavior of Al-TiB2 composites based on existing literature has been introduced in this chapter, it can be said from overall discussion that Al−TiB 2 composites perform very well in tribological aspects.
Abstract: The present chapter deals with Al-TiB2 metal matrix composites (MMCs). MMCs are already proved for their superior mechanical properties and tribological behavior when compared with monolithic metal alloys which actually made MMCs suitable for versatile range of applications. Accordingly, mass market products of composite materials are increasing progressively and area of applications are spreading day by day. From solid-to-liquid processing, there are several methods through which reinforcing phases have been incorporated into the metallic phase. A discussion regarding tribological and corrosion behavior of Al–TiB2 composites based on existing literature has been introduced in this chapter. It can be said from overall discussion that Al–TiB2 composites perform very well in tribological aspects. To talk about corrosion resistance, definitely some new approaches should be taken to make it better.

TL;DR: In this paper, double and triple junction cells were compared in terms of efficiency, fill factor, and other electrical parameters, and the performance of these two cells was analyzed using the dark current.
Abstract: The most efficient technology for generation of electricity from solar irradiation is multijunction solar cell in tandem structure. The materials used in these structures are a prime factor, controlling device efficiency. The III-V compound semiconductor optoelectronic alloys are quite promising, due to their direct bandgap feature and superior performance, compared to any other existing solar cell technologies. This has led to a widespread use of these alloys in solar panels installed in satellites. In spite of superior performance of III-V alloy cells, Si cells have dominated the terrestrial market due to their lower cost. To introduce cost effectiveness in tandem cells Al is alloyed with GaInP and GaAs, in the proposed structures, which bring down the cost of these priceless alloys. Moreover, a comparative analysis is done among double and triple junction cells. The aim of this work is to investigate and correlate their performance in terms of efficiency, fill factor, and other electrical parameters, in double junction and triple junction solar cell on Germanium (Ge) substrate. Dark current of these two cells are also calculated for analyzing their performance.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a system to maximize the flexibility and popularity of household gardening even in the busy city/urban life, considering the prospective farming capacity on both sides of the parapet of an average size rooftop.
Abstract: Requirement of floor space and investment of time and effort toward caring plants are the two key factors standing bar to popularization of rooftop gardening/farming. Use of parapets on the rooftop for gardening/farming might be a good idea but not with the available options of vertical gardening due to reasons aplenty. Voluminous renovations involved in planting the vertical ‘Green Wall’ module which is difficult (impossible at times) to remove/relocate, difficulty to reach out to plants/pots hanging faraway for harnessing/trimming are the problem areas in applying the existing vertical gardening techniques to rooftop farming. The subject concept implemented through the proposed system not only eliminates all these impediments but also minimizes the plant care needs, thus maximizing the flexibility and popularity of household gardening even in the busy city/urban life. Considering the prospective farming capacity on both sides of the parapet of an average size rooftop, the concept poses a game changer in the next generation Green Building initiative.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyzed the natural frequency and mode shape of a stiffened composite conoidal shell with cutout with the help of finite element method, for varying size of the cutouts and their positions with respect to the shell center for different boundary conditions of cross-ply and angle-ply laminated composite conoids.
Abstract: Analysis of natural frequency and mode shape of a stiffened composite conoidal shell with cutout is done with the help of finite element method. Dynamic characteristics of stiffened composite conoidal shells with cutout are analysed for varying size of the cutouts and their positions with respect to the shell centre for different boundary conditions of cross-ply and angle-ply laminated composite conoids. The detailed effects of these parametric variations on the fundamental frequencies and mode shapes are considered. The results may be readily used by practising engineers for appropriate selection of stiffened composite conoids with the provision of cutouts either central or eccentric.
