TL;DR: In this article, the authors propose a method and apparatus for rapidly assigning traffic channels to a plurality of mobile stations in a wide area high-speed packet data cellular communication system. But the scheme requires the mobile station to transmit access probes on randomly selected access channels to selected base stations to initiate traffic channel assignments.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for rapidly assigning traffic channels to a plurality of mobile stations in a wide area high-speed packet data cellular communication system. Mobile stations transmit access probes on randomly selected access channels to selected base stations to initiate traffic channel assignments. The access probe comprises a pilot preamble, a traffic channel request, and a pilot/data request channel (DRC). The pilot preamble allows the selected base station to easily detect the access probe transmission. The traffic channel request includes data that identifies the mobile station. Immediately after transmitting the traffic channel request, the mobile station begins communicating with the base station on both the forward and reverse communication links. The selected base station immediately supervises the mobile station's transmission power. The mobile station selects from a group of available power control sub-channels. The mobile station selects an available channel and an associated power control sub-channel from the list.

TL;DR: In this article, a method of obtaining data useful for one or more network applications is described, which is performed responsive to a triggering event, such as a dropped call, a position fix, or even expiration of a timer.
Abstract: A method of obtaining data useful for one or more network applications is described. The method is performed responsive to a triggering event, such as a dropped call, a position fix, or even expiration of a timer. A position estimate for a subscriber station is obtained responsive to the event. A record is then formed associating the position estimate for the subscriber station with an identifier of the triggering event and/or data measured or obtained responsive to the event, such as the strength of one or more pilots visible to the subscriber station. The record is either stored locally or transmitted to a remote location. In one implementation, the record is transmitted to a remote location, and stored in a database holding like records relating to other subscriber stations.

TL;DR: In this paper, a communication system for transmitting variable rate data is disclosed wherein redundancy is added to the variable data to provide repetition symbols, and the repetition symbol data is transmitted with symbol energy scaled in accordance to the rate of variable data when the variable rate is greater than or equal to a nominal data rate.
Abstract: A communication system for transmitting variable rate data is disclosed wherein redundancy is added to the variable rate data to provide repetition symbols. The repetition symbol data is transmitted with symbol energy scaled in accordance to the rate of the variable rate data when the variable rate data is greater than or equal to a nominal data rate. When the variable rate data is less than the nominal data rate, the symbol data is transmitted at nominal symbol energy and redundancy is removed by transmission gating of a proportion of the transmission symbol data determined in accordance with the rate of the variable rate data. Furthermore, a receiver for receiving the variable rate data is disclosed which uses the redundancy in the transmitted data symbol stream to make a corrected estimate of the transmitted symbol data.

TL;DR: In this article, a drone may access the restricted area based on the comparison of the received conditional access information and the access parameter, and the drone may take corrective action when the received access information does not permit access to the restricted areas based on an access parameter for the drone.
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices are disclosed for providing conditional access for a drone for accessing a restricted area. Conditional access information associated with conditional access restrictions for the restricted area may be received by the drone. The drone may compare the received conditional access information to one or more access parameters for the drone. The drone may access the restricted area based on the comparison of the received conditional access information and the access parameter. A drone may take corrective action when the received conditional access information does not permit access to the restricted area based on the access parameter for the drone.

TL;DR: In this article, a hybrid position determination system is described, in which a mobile device may determine a number of pseudo ranges based on a first position determination systems, such as a Global Positioning System.
Abstract: A hybrid position determination system is disclosed. A mobile device may determine a number of pseudo ranges based on a first position determination system, such as a Global Positioning System. In instances where the position of the mobile device is underdetermined because of an insufficient number of satellite pseudo ranges, the mobile device shares position information with other devices. The other devices may include other mobile devices. A first mobile device may determine its position based on an underdetermined number of satellite pseudo ranges by determining pseudo ranges to other mobile devices. In other embodiments, the number of satellite pseudo ranges may be insufficient to generate an absolute position determination of a single mobile device. In this underdetermined condition, mobile devices may determine a common location of the group or may determine a relative positioning of members of the group.
