Abstract: A flexible and relatively hardware efficient LDPC encoder is described. The encoder can be implemented with a level of parallelism which is less than the full parallelism of the code structure used to control the encoding process. Each command of a relatively simple microcode used to describe the code structure can be stored and executed multiple times to complete the encoding of a codeword. Different codeword lengths can be supported using the same set of microcode instructions but with the code being implemented a different number of times depending on the lifting factor selected to be used. The LDPC encoder can switch between encoding codewords of different lengths, without the need to change the stored code description information, by simply changing a code lifting factor used to control the encoding processes. When coding codewords shorter than the maximum supported codeword length some block storage locations and/or registers may go unused.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for a generalized scheduler for scheduling transmissions in a communications system. The scheduler is defined by a priority function of the channel condition and fairness criteria. The generalized scheduler is adapted to apply a variety of combinations of channel condition metrics and user fairness metrics. The scheduler distinguishes among classes of users, allowing individual processing per class. In one embodiment, a system controller receives a Delivery Priority Parameter (DPP) for each of a plurality of users, and maps each DPP to a corresponding common Mapped Priority Parameter (MPP). An operating point is determined and a corresponding MPP value for each of the users is applied to schedule transmissions.

Abstract: A channel structure has at least two channel sets. Each channel set contains multiple channels and is associated with a specific mapping of the channels to the system resources available for data transmission. Each channel set may be defined based on a channel tree having a hierarchical structure. To achieve intra-cell interference diversity, the channel-to-resource mapping for each channel set is pseudo-random with respect to the mapping for each remaining channel set. In each scheduling interval, terminals are scheduled for transmission on the forward and/or reverse link. The scheduled terminals are assigned channels from the channel sets. Multiple terminals may use the same system resources and their overlapping transmissions may be separated in the spatial domain. For example, beamforming may be performed to send multiple overlapping transmissions on the forward link, and receiver spatial processing may be performed to separate out multiple overlapping transmissions received on the reverse link.

Abstract: To enable point-to-multipoint communication services in an existing cellular communication system infrastructure, each member subscriber station (102), i.e., a subscriber station participating in such a service, is receiving a forward link shared channel (106), and in certain embodiments additionally a forward link dedicated channel. Because transmission on the forward link channels from neighboring sectors presents interference to the transmission from the sector serving the subscriber station, it is desirable to control the forward link channel transmission power to the minimum acceptable power. Additionally, a transmission from each member subscriber station on a reverse link channel (108) presents interference to other subscriber stations. Therefore, it is desirable to control the reverse link channel transmission to the minimum signal level. Consequently, a method and apparatus for a power control that enables point-to-multipoint services in an existing infrastructure of a wireless cellular telephone system is disclosed.

Abstract: This article presents the prediction difference analysis method for visualizing the response of a deep neural network to a specific input. When classifying images, the method highlights areas in a given input image that provide evidence for or against a certain class. It overcomes several shortcoming of previous methods and provides great additional insight into the decision making process of classifiers. Making neural network decisions interpretable through visualization is important both to improve models and to accelerate the adoption of black-box classifiers in application areas such as medicine. We illustrate the method in experiments on natural images (ImageNet data), as well as medical images (MRI brain scans).
