TL;DR: In this paper, the machinability of hardened steels at different levels of hardness and using a range of cutting tool materials were evaluated. And the results indicated that when turning AISI 4340 steel using low feed rates and depths of cut, the forces were higher when machining the softer steel and that surface roughness of the machined part was improved as cutting speed was elevated and deteriorated with feed rate.

Abstract: We present a unifying approach to the quantification of entanglement based on entanglement witnesses, which includes several already established entanglement measures such as the negativity, the concurrence, and the robustness of entanglement. We then introduce an infinite family of new entanglement quantifiers, having as its limits the best separable approximation measure and the generalized robustness. Gaussian states, states with symmetry, states constrained to super-selection rules, and states composed of indistinguishable particles are studied under the view of the witnessed entanglement. We derive new bounds to the fidelity of teleportation d_(min), for the distillable entanglement E_D and for the entanglement of formation. A particular measure, the PPT-generalized robustness, stands out due to its easy calculability and provides sharper bounds to d_(min) and E_D than the negativity in most of the states. We illustrate our approach studying thermodynamical properties of entanglement in the Heisenberg XXX and dimerized models.

Abstract: The goal of this chapter is to review the importance of excitons to single-wall carbon nanotube (SWNT) optics. We have developed the presentation for both researchers in the SWNT field who want to learn more about the unusual aspects of SWNT exciton photophysics and researchers more knowledgeable about the physics of excitons, but not about SWNT physics. Excitons in SWNTs are special because graphite has two energy bands at the Fermi energy related to time-reversal symmetry and because SWNTs are actually one dimensional. This review discusses both theoretical and experimental points of view, thus aiming to provide a summary of the most important work in the field, as well as to identify open questions.

Abstract: The ability of an individual to sense pain is fundamental for its capacity to adapt to its environment and to avoid damage. The sensation of pain can be enhanced by acute or chronic inflammation. In the present study, we have investigated whether inflammatory pain, as measured by hypernociceptive responses, was modified in the absence of the microbiota. To this end, we evaluated mechanical nociceptive responses induced by a range of inflammatory stimuli in germ-free and conventional mice. Our experiments show that inflammatory hypernociception induced by carrageenan, lipopolysaccharide, TNF-α, IL-1β, and the chemokine CXCL1 was reduced in germ-free mice. In contrast, hypernociception induced by prostaglandins and dopamine was similar in germ-free or conventional mice. Reduction of hypernociception induced by carrageenan was associated with reduced tissue inflammation and could be reversed by reposition of the microbiota or systemic administration of lipopolysaccharide. Significantly, decreased hypernociception in germ-free mice was accompanied by enhanced IL-10 expression upon stimulation and could be reversed by treatment with an anti-IL-10 antibody. Therefore, these results show that contact with commensal microbiota is necessary for mice to develop inflammatory hypernociception. These findings implicate an important role of the interaction between the commensal microbiota and the host in favoring adaptation to environmental stresses, including those that cause pain.
