TL;DR: This work cast localness modeling as a learnable Gaussian bias, which indicates the central and scope of the local region to be paid more attention in self-attention networks, to maintain the strength of capturing long distance dependencies while enhance the ability of capturing short-range dependencies.
Abstract: Self-attention networks have proven to be of profound value for its strength of capturing global dependencies. In this work, we propose to model localness for self-attention networks, which enhances the ability of capturing useful local context. We cast localness modeling as a learnable Gaussian bias, which indicates the central and scope of the local region to be paid more attention. The bias is then incorporated into the original attention distribution to form a revised distribution. To maintain the strength of capturing long distance dependencies while enhance the ability of capturing short-range dependencies, we only apply localness modeling to lower layers of self-attention networks. Quantitative and qualitative analyses on Chinese-English and English-German translation tasks demonstrate the effectiveness and universality of the proposed approach.

TL;DR: By combining the backstepping recursive design with Lyapunov function theory, a finite-time adaptive fuzzy decentralized control approach is raised and it is testified that the developed control strategy can guarantee that the closed-loop signals are bounded, and the outputs of systems have satisfactory tracking performance in a finite time.
Abstract: This paper solves the finite-time decentralized control problem for uncertain nonlinear large-scale systems in nonstrict-feedback form. The considered controlled plants are different from the previous results of finite-time control systems, which are the nonstrict-feedback large-scale systems with the unknown functions consisting of all states, interactions, and immeasurable states. Fuzzy logic systems and a filter-based state observer are utilized to model uncertain systems and deal with the immeasurable states, respectively. By combining the backstepping recursive design with Lyapunov function theory, a finite-time adaptive fuzzy decentralized control approach is raised. It is testified that the developed control strategy can guarantee that the closed-loop signals are bounded, and the outputs of systems have satisfactory tracking performance in a finite time. A quadruple-tank process system is given to testify the effectiveness and applicability of the proposed approach.

TL;DR: The role of 2D photothermal nanomaterials in solving water challenges is highlighted and a viable scheme toward the practical use in photothermal materials selection, design, and evaporation systems building is provided.
Abstract: Water shortage is one of the most concerning global challenges in the 21st century. Solar-inspired vaporization employing photothermal nanomaterials is considered to be a feasible and green technology for addressing the water challenge by virtue of abundant and clean solar energy. 2D nanomaterials aroused considerable attention in photothermal evaporation-induced water production owing to their large absorption surface, strong absorption in broadband solar spectrum, and efficient photothermal conversion. Herein, the recent progress of 2D nanomaterials-based photothermal evaporation, mainly including emerging Xenes (phosphorene, antimonene, tellurene, and borophene) and binary-enes (MXenes and transition metal dichalcogenides), is reviewed. Then, the optimization strategies for higher evaporation performance are summarized in terms of modulation of the intrinsic photothermal performance of 2D nanomaterials and design of the complete evaporation system. Finally, the challenges and prospective of various kinds of 2D photothermal nanomaterials are discussed in terms of the photothermal performance, stability, environmental influence, and cost. One important principle is that solutions for water challenges should not introduce new environmental and social problems. This Review aims to highlight the role of 2D photothermal nanomaterials in solving water challenges and provides a viable scheme toward the practical use in photothermal materials selection, design, and evaporation systems building.

TL;DR: In this paper, a compact double equilateral U-shaped defected ground structure (DGS) unit is proposed, which provides dual finite attenuation poles that can be independently controlled by the DGS lengths.
Abstract: A compact double equilateral U-shaped defected ground structure (DGS) unit is proposed. In contrast to a single finite attenuation pole characteristic offered by the conventional dumbbell DGS, the proposed DGS unit provides dual finite attenuation poles that can be independently controlled by the DGS lengths. A 2.4-GHz microstrip lowpass filter using five cascaded double U-shaped DGS units is designed and compared with conventional DGS lowpass filters. This low pass filter achieves a wide stopband with overall 30-dB attenuation up-to10 GHz and more than 42% size diminution.
