Abstract: Stretchable optoelectronic materials are essential for applications in wearable electronics, human–machine interfaces and soft robots. However, intrinsically stretchable optoelectronic devices such as light-emitting capacitors usually require high driving alternating voltages and excitation frequencies to achieve sufficient luminance in ambient lighting conditions. Here, we present a healable, low-field illuminating optoelectronic stretchable (HELIOS) device by introducing a transparent, high permittivity polymeric dielectric material. The HELIOS device turns on at an alternating voltage of 23 V and a frequency below 1 kHz, safe operating conditions for human–machine interactions. We achieved a brightness of 1,460 cd m−2 at 2.5 V µm−1 with stable illumination demonstrated up to a maximum of 800% strain. The materials also self-healed mechanically and electronically from punctures or when severed. We further demonstrate various HELIOS light-emitting capacitor devices in environment sensing using optical feedback. Moreover, our devices can be powered wirelessly, potentially enabling applications for untethered damage-resilient soft robots. Stretchable and self-healing light-emitting capacitors operating at low frequency and low voltage have been realized using a transparent elastomeric dielectric with high permittivity.

Abstract: Using data collected at two phases, this study examines why and how ethical leadership behavior influences employees’ evaluations of organization-focused justice, i.e., procedural justice and distributive justice. By proposing ethical leaders as moral agents of the organization, we build up the linkage between ethical leadership behavior and the above two types of organization-focused justice. We further suggest trust in organization as a key mediating mechanism in the linkage. Our findings indicate that ethical leadership behavior engenders employees’ trust in their employing organization, which in turn promotes their justice perceptions toward the organization. The theoretical and practical implications of these findings are discussed, and some directions for future research are suggested.

Abstract: A new gain-enhanced patch antenna with loading of shorting pins is proposed in this paper. Four metallic pins are symmetrically placed in the two diagonals of a square patch resonator to electrically short the patch and ground plane. These shorting pins tremendously perturb the field distribution beneath the patch due to their shunt inductive effect. As these four pins are moved outward along the two orthogonal diagonals away from the center, their influence on the field distribution over the patch is strengthened to gradually raise its dominant mode, i.e., TM010 mode, resonant frequency as the pin-to-pin spacing is enlarged. At a fixed resonant frequency, the overall area of this proposed patch antenna with four pins results to be increased. As such, its radiation directivity or gain gets to be enhanced due to the enlarged antenna area. After extensive analysis is executed, two square patch antennas with and without loaded pins are designed and fabricated. The simulated and measured results agree with each other, and they have evidently demonstrated that the radiation directivity can be enhanced up to 11.0 dBi, or about 2.9 dB increment, by virtue of the proposed approach.

Abstract: For a class of nonlinear least squares problems, it is usually very beneficial to separate the variables into a linear and a nonlinear part and take full advantage of reliable linear least squares techniques. Consequently, the original problem is turned into a reduced problem which involves only nonlinear parameters. We consider in this paper four separated algorithms for such problems. The first one is the variable projection (VP) algorithm with full Jacobian matrix of Golub and Pereyra. The second and third ones are VP algorithms with simplified Jacobian matrices proposed by Kaufman and Ruano et al. respectively. The fourth one only uses the gradient of the reduced problem. Monte Carlo experiments are conducted to compare the performance of these four algorithms. From the results of the experiments, we find that: 1) the simplified Jacobian proposed by Ruano et al. is not a good choice for the VP algorithm; moreover, it may render the algorithm hard to converge; 2) the fourth algorithm perform moderately among these four algorithms; 3) the VP algorithm with the full Jacobian matrix perform more stable than that of the VP algorithm with Kuafman’s simplified one; and 4) the combination of VP algorithm and Levenberg–Marquardt method is more effective than the combination of VP algorithm and Gauss–Newton method.
