TL;DR: This paper presents an intuitive model for measuring the similarity between two time series that takes into account outliers, different scaling functions, and variable sampling rates, and shows the naturalness of this notion of similarity.
Abstract: Similarity of objects is one of the crucial concepts in several applications, including data mining For complex objects, similarity is nontrivial to define In this paper we present an intuitive model for measuring the similarity between two time series The model takes into account outliers, different scaling functions, and variable sampling rates Using methods from computational geometry, we show that this notion of similarity can be computed in polynomial time Using statistical approximation techniques, the algorithms can be speeded up considerably We give preliminary experimental results that show the naturalness of the notion

TL;DR: In this article, the effect on acquisition outcomes of the interaction of board vigilance and director experiential learning was investigated, and the empirical findings indicated that vigilant boards rich in appropriate experience are associated with superior acquisition outcomes.
Abstract: Agency-based studies of boards of directors address factors relevant to board vigilance with respect to the monitoring of senior managers. We argue that relying solely on director vigilance may be limiting because vigilance without relevant experience is unlikely to ensure board effectiveness. Our contention is that boards comprising vigilant directors, as well as directors with appropriate knowledge gained through experience, not only will be better monitors, but also more useful advisors to top managers. The focus of our study is on the effect on acquisition outcomes of the interaction of board vigilance and director experiential learning. Consistent with our expectations, the empirical findings indicate that vigilant boards rich in appropriate experience are associated with superior acquisition outcomes. TL;DR: In this article, the authors further examined the construct and predictive validity of the perceived motivational climate in sport questionnaire or PMCSQ and found that perceptions of a mastery climate were positively related to satisfaction with being a member on the team and negatively associated with performance worry.
Abstract: The purpose of this study was to further examine the construct and predictive validity of the Perceived Motivational Climate in Sport Questionnaire or PMCSQ. Young athletes (N = 169, M age = 14.2 ± 1.94 years) on teams competing in an amateur international competition completed questionnaires measuring perceived motivational climate, the degree of worry experienced while participating, and team satisfaction. Results of a confirmatory factor analysis indicated an acceptable fit of the data with the hypothetical measurement model. In terms of the predictive utility of the PMCSQ, perceptions of a mastery climate were positively related to satisfaction with being a member on the team and negatively associated with performance worry. In contrast, perceptions of a performance climate were positively associated with concerns about failing and the adequacy of one's performance and negatively correlated with team satisfaction. Future directions in terms of instrument development and research on motivational climat...

TL;DR: In this paper, a model incorporating antecedents and outcomes of measures of manager-rated employee affective and continuance commitment was tested with 231 managers and 339 subordinates, and the results showed that the model was effective with respect to both managers and subordinates.

TL;DR: These meta-analyses support the efficacy of both MFT for distressed couples, and martial and family enrichment, and the concept of meta-analytically supported treatments (MASTs) is introduced, which are treatments that meet certain criteria for efficacy in meta-analysis, and which remedy certain problems in the empirically supported treatment (EST) literature.
Abstract: This article briefly reviews 20 meta-analyses of marital and family interventions. These meta-analyses support the efficacy of both MFT for distressed couples, and martial and family enrichment. Those effects are slightly reduced at follow-up, but still significant. Differences among kinds of marital and family interventions tend to be small. MFT produce clinically significant results in 40-50% of those treated, but the effects of MFT in clinically representative settings have not been much studied. The article also introduces the concept of meta-analytically supported treatments (MASTs), which are treatments that meet certain criteria for efficacy in meta-analysis, and which remedy certain problems in the empirically supported treatment (EST) literature. The article concludes with recommendations for doing better meta-analyses.
