TL;DR: In this paper, the authors consider subshifts of finite type on the symbolic space generated by incidence matrices over a countably infinite alphabet and construct a new class of Gibbs states of Holder continuous potentials on these symbol spaces.
Abstract: We consider subshifts of finite type on the symbolic space generated by incidence matrices over a countably infinite alphabet. We extend the definition of topological pressure to this context and, as our main result, we construct a new class of Gibbs states of Holder continuous potentials on these symbol spaces. We establish some basic stochastic properties of these Gibbs states: exponential decay of correlations, central limit theorem and an a.s. invariance principle. This is accomplished via detailed studies of the associated Perron-Frobenius operator and its conjugate operator.

TL;DR: This meta-analysis examines the correlates of self- forgiveness associated with physical and mental health and estimated the relationships between self-forgiveness and specific mental health constructs and relationship outcomes.
Abstract: Self-forgiveness has been conceptualized as a coping strategy that may improve health and well-being. To better understand the functions of self-forgiveness, this meta-analysis examines the correlates of self-forgiveness associated with physical and mental health. For physical health, across 18 samples and 5,653 participants, the correlation was .32. For psychological well-being, across 65 samples and 17,939 participants, the correlation was .45. To augment this primary focus on physical and mental health correlates, we estimated the relationships between self-forgiveness and specific mental health constructs and relationship outcomes. Implications for future basic and applied research on self-forgiveness are discussed.

TL;DR: The proposed polyp region detection method is based on the elliptical shape that is common for nearly all small colon polyps, and relies heavily on a training set of images for accuracy.
Abstract: Early detection of polyps and cancers is one of the most important goals of colonoscopy. Computer-based analysis of video files using texture features, as has been proposed for polyps of the stomach and colon, has two major limitations: this method uses a fixed size analysis window and relies heavily on a training set of images for accuracy. To overcome these limitations, we propose a new technique focusing on shape instead of texture in this paper. The proposed polyp region detection method is based on the elliptical shape that is common for nearly all small colon polyps.

TL;DR: In this article, active non-linear optical effects in semiconductors are reviewed, which arise because of the dynamics of excited populations of charge carriers temporarily created in otherwise empty states when a beam of laser radiation is incident on the material.
Abstract: In this article active non-linear optical effects in semiconductors are reviewed. These processes arise because of the dynamics of excited populations of charge carriers temporarily created in otherwise empty states when a beam of laser radiation is incident on the material. A large number of different effects have been observed in different semiconductor materials recently and the non-linearities cover a wide range of magnitudes both in time-scale and size of non-linearity. The theory and physical concepts relevant to these processes are described and experimental observations using both high power pulsed and low power c.w. lasers are reviewed. Applications in optical bistability, phase conjugation, optical gating and optoelectronic gating are discussed.
