TL;DR: In this article, a conceptual framework for circularity in the Agri-Food Supply Chain (AFSC) is proposed considering the 6Rs (remanufacture, redesign, reduce, recycle, reuse, and recover).
Abstract: The importance given to Circular Economy (CE) has further increased in the Agri-Food Supply Chain (AFSC) to combat the challenges of food loss and waste which could be caused by various reasons, such as poor stock management, economic behavior and also, the occurrence of COVID-19 outbreak. The transition from linear to circularity can also enable competitive sustainability from farm to fork in AFSC, which consists of different stages: farmers, food processors, food distributors, food retailers, consumers. Food loss mainly occurs in AFSC at near-farm stages (i.e., harvesting, processing) while food waste happens in AFSC at near-fork stages (i.e., retail, post-consumption). Thus, 6Rs (remanufacture, redesign, reduce, recycle, reuse, and recover) of CE principles can offer various benefits to close the loop of the wastages along with the AFSC. In this chapter, a conceptual framework for circularity in the AFSC is proposed considering the 6Rs. Furthermore, this framework also supports the Sustainable Development Goals. The applicability of the proposed framework is examined and discussed in the case of Turkey using SWOT Analysis. Key findings indicate that there is confusion about food loss and waste issues in Turkey. In addition, the solutions and developments for FLW problem are generally focused on food waste.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigate the reasons for femicide and violence in Turkey and determine whether a change in the legal system can ultimately resolve the problem, concluding that unless there is a fundamental change in attitudes towards women, especially on the part of men, violence against women will continue to be major challenges and will remain to be properly addressed by lawmakers.
Abstract: Violence against women in Turkey is a tangible manifestation of the way that Turkish men have used force to exercise dominance over Turkish women. It is considered by many in society as natural, cultural and possibly unchanging. Violence is, inarguably, a critical social challenge throughout Turkey and has not improved, even as the world is addressing it more and more. Violence against women is a crime against human rights, which this study attempts to address. The aim of this paper is to discover the reasons for femicide and violence and to determine whether a change in the legal system can ultimately resolve the problem. Indeed, in present-day Turkey it is very difficult to verify the precise levels of violence against women. The paper concludes that unless there is a fundamental change in attitudes towards women, especially on the part of men, violence against women and femicide will continue to be major challenges and will remain to be properly addressed by lawmakers. Furthermore, because attitudes towards women are not good in Turkey, official statistics regarding violence against women are unreliable, making it that much more difficult to implement targeted, effective measures to address violence against women and femicide.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors put forward the use of literary fiction as an instrument for architectural research and illustrated the potential benefits of any prospective relationship between architecture and literature through a theme selected from both literary fiction and architectural discourse.
Abstract: Bu calismanin temel amaci, mimarlik arastirmalari kapsaminda yazinsal metinlerin kullanimini onermek ve bu baglamda mimarlik ve edebiyat arasindaki olasi iliskinin potansiyel yararlarini ornekleyerek ortaya koymaktir. Bu iki alan – mimarlik ve edebiyat – arasindaki iliski, hem yazinsal kurgu hem de mimarlik soylemi cercevesinden resmedilerek incelenmistir. Yazinsal kurguyu temsil eden birinci orneklem alan, bilim kurgu yazari Jim Graham Ballard’in High Rise ve Concrete Island adli iki romanindan olusmaktadir. The main aims of this study are to propose the employment of literary texts in architectural research and to illustrate the potential benefits of any prospective relationship between architecture and literature. The proposal is portrayed through a theme selected from both literary fiction and architectural discourse. These two realms and the relationship between them will be examined through the use of two examples. The first example is the work of Jim Graham Ballard, a science fiction writer working with the realm of literary fiction, and the second example is “lost space,” Roger Trancik’s notorious discourse on the quality of modern urban space that can be interpreted as criticizing Le Corbusier’s well-known statement from the realm of architectural discourse on “the death of the street.” The medium of literature about the consequence of modern architecture is therefore offered as a new way to awareness, which is hardly possible through the instruments of a single discipline; in other words, within the frontiers of architecture itself. In this respect, this paper puts forward literary fiction as an instrument for architectural research.

TL;DR: An interactive quality assessment method to evaluate perceptual quality for asymmetric coding of 3D video and results show that the interactive test methodology gives more reliable results than conventional sequential test methodology, especially for low bitrate scenarios.
Abstract: In stereoscopic 3D video, it is known that humans can perceive high quality 3D video provided that one of the views in high quality. Hence, in stereo video encoding the best overall rate vs. perceived-distortion performance may be achieved by asymmetric coding which is reduction of the spatial or quantization resolution of the auxiliary view, while keeping the reference view in full resolution. In this paper, we propose an interactive quality assessment method to evaluate perceptual quality for asymmetric coding of 3D video. Subjective Evaluation of Stereo VIdeo Quality (SESVIQ) is proposed as stereo extension of SAMVIQ (Subjective Assessment Methodology for VIdeo Quality) methodology of EBU. We conducted subjective experiments to compare different algorithms such as symmetric over asymmetric rate allocation or spatial over SNR (signal-to-noise ratio) scaling of the auxiliary view. Test results show that the interactive test methodology gives more reliable results than conventional sequential test methodology, especially for low bitrate scenarios.

TL;DR: Two different optimization algorithms are investigated, namely, a Non-Dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm II and a multi-objective Harmony Search algorithm (MOHS) in order to gather Pareto front approximation with a set of non-dominated solutions.
Abstract: The aim of the research is to find a feasible set of theatre hall design alternatives for two objectives, which are the total cost and the reverberation time, subject to several constraints. We formulate the problem as a multi-objective realparameter constrained optimization problem. To handle this problem, we investigated two different optimization algorithms, namely, a Non-Dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm II (NSGA-II) and a multi-objective Harmony Search algorithm (MOHS) in order to gather Pareto front approximation with a set of non-dominated solutions. We demonstrate that the MOHS yields slightly better results than the NSGA-II algorithm.
