TLDR
A stochastic discrete automaton model is introduced to simulate freeway traffic and shows a transition from laminar traffic flow to start-stop- waves with increasing vehicle density, as is observed in real freeway traffic.
Abstract
We introduce a stochastic discrete automaton model to simulate freeway traffic. Monte-Carlo simulations of the model show a transition from laminar traffic flow to start-stop- waves with increasing vehicle density, as is observed in real freeway traffic. For special cases analytical results can be obtained.

Scheduling of connected autonomous vehicles on highway lanes

TL;DR: This paper studies lane assignment strategies for connected autonomous vehicles in a highway scenario and their impact on the overall traffic efficiency and safety, and proposes a novel lane change maneuver Politely Change Lane (PCL), which achieves the tradeoff between traffic safety and efficiency.

A dynamical model with next-nearest-neighbor interaction in relative velocity

TL;DR: By introducing the velocity difference between the preceding car and the car before the preceding one into the optimal velocity model (OVM), this article presented an extended dynamical model which takes into account the next-nearest-neighbor interaction in relative velocity.

Multi-class continuum traffic flow models : analysis and simulation methods. Thesis Delft University of Technology.

TL;DR: The new model (Fastlane) describes traffic as a continuum flow while accounting for different types of vehicles and is reformulated in Lagrangian coordinates.

A mathematical formalism for agent-based modeling

TL;DR: The paper contains a sampling of the mathematical results from the literature to show how finite dynamical systems can be used to carry out a rigorous study of the properties of multiagent systems and how the framework can also serve as a universal model for computation.

Learning from Multiple Sources

TL;DR: This work aims at defining and testing a set of techniques that enables agents to use information from several sources during learning, when the agents may have different structures and learning algorithms, thus providing different perspectives on the problems they are facing.
