TLDR
A stochastic discrete automaton model is introduced to simulate freeway traffic and shows a transition from laminar traffic flow to start-stop- waves with increasing vehicle density, as is observed in real freeway traffic.
Abstract
We introduce a stochastic discrete automaton model to simulate freeway traffic. Monte-Carlo simulations of the model show a transition from laminar traffic flow to start-stop- waves with increasing vehicle density, as is observed in real freeway traffic. For special cases analytical results can be obtained.

Realistic Simulation of Network Protocols in VANET Scenarios

TL;DR: This work developed an integrated traffic/network simulation tool for evaluating network protocols in realistic VANET environments and employed well-studied microsimulation models and wireless ad hoc network models from the domain of transportation and traffic science and the networking community.

A cellular automata model for mixed traffic flow considering the driving behavior of connected automated vehicle platoons

TL;DR: A cellular automata (CA) model of mixed traffic flow considering the driving behavior of the platoon of CAVs is proposed, and sensitivity analysis shows that when the penetration rate ofCAVs is 100%, the maximum platoon size increase can improve the road capacity.

Life times of simulated traffic jams

TL;DR: A model for freeway traffic which includes strong noise taking into account the fluctuations of individual driving behavior shows emergent traffic jams with a self-similar appearance near the throughput maximum of the traffic.

Analysis of traffic congestion induced by the work zone

TL;DR: A meticulous two-lane cellular automata model is proposed, in which the driving behavior difference and the difference of vehicles’ accelerations between the moving state and the starting state are taken into account, which indicates that the presented model is efficient and can partially reflect the real traffic.

Multiple-vehicle collision induced by lane changing in traffic flow

TL;DR: The region map for the multiple-vehicle collision induced by lane changing is derived and the number of collisions depends on the initial velocity, the initial density, the incoming velocity,The incoming headway, the and the relative velocity.
