TLDR
A stochastic discrete automaton model is introduced to simulate freeway traffic and shows a transition from laminar traffic flow to start-stop- waves with increasing vehicle density, as is observed in real freeway traffic.Abstract:
We introduce a stochastic discrete automaton model to simulate freeway traffic. Monte-Carlo simulations of the model show a transition from laminar traffic flow to start-stop- waves with increasing vehicle density, as is observed in real freeway traffic. For special cases analytical results can be obtained.read more

Phase coexistence induced by a defensive reaction in a cellular automaton traffic flow model
TL;DR: In this article, an extension of the Nagel-Schreckenberg (NaSch) model of vehicle traffic flow that takes into account a defensive driver's reaction is introduced. But it does not take into account the effect of the deceleration of the vehicle immediately in front of it.

Formation of density waves in traffic flow through intersecting roads.
Bahni Ray,S. N. Bhattacharyya +1 more
TL;DR: It is found that, depending on the traffic densities in the two roads, density waves can form in the traffic circle and in one or both of the roads.

Traffic flow through multi-lane tollbooths on a toll highway
Kazuhito Komada,Takashi Nagatani +1 more
TL;DR: The fundamental diagrams (current–density diagrams) for the traffic flow on the toll highway are derived and the current saturates at the nearest tollgate at a low density and the saturation extends to the next-nearest tollgate with increasing density.
Comparison of Assignment Methods for Simulation-Based Dynamic-Equilibrium Traffic Assignment
TL;DR: The algorithms presented in this paper have been found to work in practice for finding approximate dynamic equilibrium conditions on real-world networks of significant size and may be calibrated for medium-size networks and the dynamic flows obtained with very reasonable computing times.

Phase transition at an on-ramp in the Nagel–Schreckenberg traffic flow model
Rui Jiang,Qing-Song Wu +1 more
TL;DR: It is shown that when considering the situation that vehicles on main road and on-ramp interact in a relatively long road section, first-order phase transition from free flow to congested flow occurs.
