TLDR
A stochastic discrete automaton model is introduced to simulate freeway traffic and shows a transition from laminar traffic flow to start-stop- waves with increasing vehicle density, as is observed in real freeway traffic.
Abstract
We introduce a stochastic discrete automaton model to simulate freeway traffic. Monte-Carlo simulations of the model show a transition from laminar traffic flow to start-stop- waves with increasing vehicle density, as is observed in real freeway traffic. For special cases analytical results can be obtained.

Multidestination Pedestrian Flows in Equilibrium: A Cellular Automaton-Based Approach

TL;DR: A novel cellular automaton model that describes the pedestrian movement by a set of simple rules and produces fundamental diagrams similar to those derived from laboratory experiments is proposed and the scalability of the proposed approach is demonstrated on a large‐scale scenario.

Nonlinear analysis of the optimal velocity difference model with reaction-time delay

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigate the effect of reaction-time delay of drivers on traffic flow analytically and numerically and show that the increase of reaction time delay leads to unrealistic traffic phenomena and unstable traffic flow.

Characteristic analysis of mixed traffic flow of regular and autonomous vehicles using cellular automata

TL;DR: In this article, two sets of rules for lane changing were designed to address mild and aggressive lane changing behavior with extensive simulation studies, and the results showed that the introduction of autonomous vehicles to road traffic could considerably improve traffic flow, particularly the road capacity and free-flow speed.

Effect of signals on two-route traffic system with real-time information

TL;DR: This work studies the effect of signals on the vehicular traffic in the two-route system at the tour-time feedback strategy where the vehicles move ahead through a series of signals at the Nagel–Schreckenberg model.

Influence of Exclusive Lanes for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles on Freeway Traffic Flow

Ke Ma, +1 more
- 12 Apr 2019 -
TL;DR: It is verified that setting up exclusive lanes for CAV will greatly improve the traffic condition of the freeway on the different penetration rates of CAV, and can effectively inhibit the degradation of CAVs within the range ofCAV’s penetration rates from 10% to 80%.
