TLDR
A stochastic discrete automaton model is introduced to simulate freeway traffic and shows a transition from laminar traffic flow to start-stop- waves with increasing vehicle density, as is observed in real freeway traffic.
Abstract
We introduce a stochastic discrete automaton model to simulate freeway traffic. Monte-Carlo simulations of the model show a transition from laminar traffic flow to start-stop- waves with increasing vehicle density, as is observed in real freeway traffic. For special cases analytical results can be obtained.

Safety evaluation of driver cognitive failures and driving errors on right-turn filtering movement at signalized road intersections based on Fuzzy Cellular Automata (FCA) model

TL;DR: A simulation-based approach to estimate safety impact of driver cognitive failures and driving errors, which allows quantitative estimation of particular cognitive failures, and the impact of cognitions on driving errors and safety performance is proposed.

A study of safety applications in vehicular networks

TL;DR: This paper defines two classes of applications for highway vehicular networks: safety-related applications and Internet connectivity and proposes a new model for highway traffic and events that can be used to automatically generate movement files readable by the NS-2.28 simulator.

The effect of restricted velocity in the two-lane on-ramp system

TL;DR: The phase diagram of the two-lane on-ramp system appears a new region, in which the traffic of the on-Ramp reaches maximum flow, and the introduction of restricted velocity region will decrease capacity of theon-ramps, but reduce the drastic velocity fluctuation near the onramp.

Stochastic vs deterministic traffic simulator. comparative study for its use within a traffic light cycles optimization architecture

TL;DR: It is shown that the fitness ranking obtained by the deterministic simulator is as good as the obtained with the stochastic one and a strong linear correlation between the results of both simulators.
