We introduce a stochastic discrete automaton model to simulate freeway traffic. Monte-Carlo simulations of the model show a transition from laminar traffic flow to start-stop- waves with increasing vehicle density, as is observed in real freeway traffic. Stochastic vs deterministic traffic simulator. comparative study for its use within a traffic light cycles optimization architecture
TL;DR: It is shown that the fitness ranking obtained by the deterministic simulator is as good as the obtained with the stochastic one and a strong linear correlation between the results of both simulators.
