TLDR
A stochastic discrete automaton model is introduced to simulate freeway traffic and shows a transition from laminar traffic flow to start-stop- waves with increasing vehicle density, as is observed in real freeway traffic.Abstract:
We introduce a stochastic discrete automaton model to simulate freeway traffic. Monte-Carlo simulations of the model show a transition from laminar traffic flow to start-stop- waves with increasing vehicle density, as is observed in real freeway traffic. For special cases analytical results can be obtained.read more

Cooperative learning using advice exchange
Luís Nunes,Eugénio Oliveira +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe a technique that enables a heterogeneous group of learning agents to improve its learning performance by exchanging advice, where the desired response is not given by the environment but is based on advice given by peers with better performance score.

The CA model for traffic-flow at the grade roundabout crossing *
TL;DR: The cellular automaton model is suggested to describe the traffic-flow at the grade roundabout crossing and, because of the self-organization, the traffic flow remains unblocked under a certain vehicle density.

Cross-Layer Design for Packet Routing in Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks
TL;DR: A cross-layer design between packet routing and medium access control (MAC) for a vehicular ad hoc network (VANET) in order to guarantee special quality of service (QoS) requirements and shows that this QoS mechanism satisfies the required packet delay for a desired information propagation area.

Analysis of network-level traffic states using locality preservative non-negative matrix factorization
Yufei Han,Fabien Moutarde +1 more
TL;DR: This paper uses a locality preservation constraints based non-negative matrix factorization (LPNMF) to obtain a low-dimensional representation of network-level traffic states of large-scale traffic networks and performs clustering and temporal prediction on this representation.

Self-organizing Communication in Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks
TL;DR: This thesis investigates techniques for comfort applications in VANETs that disseminate data in a large area by investigating an alternative approach which allows to disseminate information in a wide area even for a low penetration of 12 % of the ad hoc system.
