TLDR
A stochastic discrete automaton model is introduced to simulate freeway traffic and shows a transition from laminar traffic flow to start-stop- waves with increasing vehicle density, as is observed in real freeway traffic.
Abstract
We introduce a stochastic discrete automaton model to simulate freeway traffic. Monte-Carlo simulations of the model show a transition from laminar traffic flow to start-stop- waves with increasing vehicle density, as is observed in real freeway traffic. For special cases analytical results can be obtained.

A lattice model accounting for multi-lane traffic system

TL;DR: It is found that the lane changing in a multi-lane model plays a significant role in enhancing the stability region and stabilize the traffic flow.

Exploring the Effect of Turning Maneuvers and Route Choice on a Simple Network

TL;DR: In this paper, a simple symmetric network consisting of two tangent rings on which vehicles obey the Kinematic Wave Theory of traffic flow and can switch rings at the point of tangency is studied.

Experiment and Modelling for Pedestrian Following Behavior Using Velocity-headway Relation

TL;DR: In this article, a simple velocity-headway relation is used to describe the pedestrian following behavior in the single-file passageway, and linear stability analyses give the phase diagram of the distance headway-sensitivity.

Analytical study on the criticality of the stochastic optimal velocity model

TL;DR: In this article, a stochastic cellular automaton model of traffic flow connecting two exactly solvable stochastically solvable processes, with an additional parameter, is proposed, which is also regarded as an extended version of the optimal velocity model, and moreover it shows particularly notable properties.
