TLDR
A stochastic discrete automaton model is introduced to simulate freeway traffic and shows a transition from laminar traffic flow to start-stop- waves with increasing vehicle density, as is observed in real freeway traffic.Abstract:
We introduce a stochastic discrete automaton model to simulate freeway traffic. Monte-Carlo simulations of the model show a transition from laminar traffic flow to start-stop- waves with increasing vehicle density, as is observed in real freeway traffic. For special cases analytical results can be obtained.read more

Dynamic Traffic Flow Prediction Based on GPS Data
TL;DR: This paper proposes a hybrid method based on Variable-order Markov Model and adding on top of it the average speed of all the vehicles passing through each road segment and defines a mobility pattern as a consecutive series of road segment/link selections that exhibit frequent appearance along all the itineraries of the vehicle.

Driving behavior and control in traffic system with two kinds of signals
Takashi Nagatani,Yuki Hino +1 more
TL;DR: A microscopic model is proposed to explore the driving behavior in the traffic system with two kinds of signals and displays the complex behavior different from the conventional traffic with a single kind of signals.

Transport on Networks
TL;DR: This chapter considers various aspects of network traffic, focussing on both urban and highway networks, and introduces and uses models of city traffic for traffic signal optimization.

Erlang-based desynchronized urban traffic simulation for high-performance computing systems
TL;DR: The simulation presented in this paper is based on the concept of controlled desynchronization of the computations, which does not violate the model, and the implementation in the Erlang language uses Erlang distribution mechanisms for building and managing the computing cluster.

Visco‐elastic traffic flow model
Zuojin Zhu,Chun Yang +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, a visco-elastic traffic model was proposed in analogy of non-Newtonian fluid mechanics, which is based on mass and momentum conservations, and includes a constitutive relation similar to that of linear viscoelastic fluids.
