TLDR
A stochastic discrete automaton model is introduced to simulate freeway traffic and shows a transition from laminar traffic flow to start-stop- waves with increasing vehicle density, as is observed in real freeway traffic.
Abstract
We introduce a stochastic discrete automaton model to simulate freeway traffic. Monte-Carlo simulations of the model show a transition from laminar traffic flow to start-stop- waves with increasing vehicle density, as is observed in real freeway traffic. For special cases analytical results can be obtained.

Synchronized flow and phase separations in single-lane mixed traffic flow

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors studied synchronized flow and phase separations in mixed (heterogeneous) single-lane highway traffic, and they found that the flux-density (occupancy) curve of heterogeneous flow, as expected, lies in between two flux density curves of homogeneous flow R = 0 and R = 1.

Three Categories of Traffic Data: Historical, Current, and Predictive

TL;DR: In this paper, a framework for on-line simulations of urban as well as freeway traffic supplemented by real traffic data is presented and discussed, using this sources of information a feasible algorithm for reliable traffic forecasts is discussed.

Modeling and Prediction of Pedestrian Behavior Based on the Sub-Goal Concept

TL;DR: In this article, a method to predict pedestrians' long-term behavior in order to enable a robot to provide them services is proposed, which is based on the concept of sub-goals, defined as points and landmarks of the environment towards which pedestrians walk or where they take directional choices before reaching the final destination.

A comprehensive study of advanced information feedbacks in real-time intelligent traffic systems

TL;DR: The simulation results in the symmetrical two-route scenario with two exits suggest that VLFS is the optimal one among all the feedback strategies, which outperforms others in terms of the value, stability, average flux and balance of the vehicle number.

A multi-agent system for on-line simulations based on real-world traffic data

TL;DR: A framework for online simulations and predictions which are based on the combination of real-world traffic data and a multi-agent traffic flow model and the necessity for an anticipatory traffic forecast, which includes decision-making and route choice behavior of the road users is discussed.
