A cellular automaton model for freeway traffic
Kai Nagel,Michael Schreckenberg +1 more
TLDR
A stochastic discrete automaton model is introduced to simulate freeway traffic and shows a transition from laminar traffic flow to start-stop- waves with increasing vehicle density, as is observed in real freeway traffic.Abstract:
We introduce a stochastic discrete automaton model to simulate freeway traffic. Monte-Carlo simulations of the model show a transition from laminar traffic flow to start-stop- waves with increasing vehicle density, as is observed in real freeway traffic. For special cases analytical results can be obtained.read more

The spatial variability of vehicle densities as determinant of urban network capacity
TL;DR: This work shows that a quantization of the macroscopic turning flows into units of single vehicles is necessary to obtain realistic fluctuations in the traffic variables, and how this can be implemented in a fluid-dynamic model, and proposes a new method to simulate destination flows without the requirement of individual route assignments.

Position-aware ad hoc wireless networks for inter-vehicle communications: the Fleetnet project
TL;DR: The rationale behind the choice of an appropriate radio hardware and the use of a position-based routing approach and the intended approach of tackling these challenges are presented, thereby providing an overview of the Fleetnet project.
Bi-directional emergent fundamental pedestrian flows from cellular automata microsimulation
TL;DR: A particle hopping model for a single-directional pedestrian flow over a multilane walkway is presented and indicates that a heuristically derived minimal rule set produces flow patterns that closely resemble the accepted fundamental diagrams.

An agent-based model for risk-based flood incident management
TL;DR: A dynamic agent-based model of FIM processes has been developed to provide new insights which can be used for policy analysis and other practical applications and has demonstrated the capacity to analyse the risks of flooding to people, support flood emergency planning and appraise the benefits of flood incident management measures.

Microscopic Simulation of Urban Traffic Based on Cellular Automata
J. Esser,Michael Schreckenberg +1 more
TL;DR: This work presents a traffic simulation tool for urban road networks which is based on the Nagel–Schreckenberg Model, and modeling traffic flow dynamics using cellular automata allows to run large network traffic simulations with only comparatively low computational efforts.
