TLDR
A stochastic discrete automaton model is introduced to simulate freeway traffic and shows a transition from laminar traffic flow to start-stop- waves with increasing vehicle density, as is observed in real freeway traffic.
Abstract
We introduce a stochastic discrete automaton model to simulate freeway traffic. Monte-Carlo simulations of the model show a transition from laminar traffic flow to start-stop- waves with increasing vehicle density, as is observed in real freeway traffic. For special cases analytical results can be obtained.

Deep Reinforcement Learning for Traffic Signal Control: A Review

TL;DR: This article presents a review of the attributes of traffic signal control (TSC), as well as DRL architectures and methods applied to TSC, which helps to understand how DRL has been applied to address traffic congestion and achieve performance enhancement.

A dynamic route guidance system based on real traffic data

TL;DR: Fuzzy set theory is applied to the dynamic routing problem to solve the multiple criteria optimisation problem of mobility in modern societies.

Three-phase theory of city traffic: Moving synchronized flow patterns in under-saturated city traffic at signals

TL;DR: In this article, a three-phase traffic flow theory of city traffic has been developed, based on simulations of a stochastic microscopic traffic flow model, features of moving synchronized flow patterns (MSP) have been studied, which are responsible for a random time-delayed breakdown of a green-wave (GW) organized in a city.

A traffic flow model with constraints for the modeling of traffic jams

TL;DR: A more realistic model namely the Second Order Model with Constraints (in short SOMC) is proposed, derived from the Aw and Rascle model,1 which takes into account this feature.

A novel algorithm of simulating multi-velocity evacuation based on cellular automata modeling and tenability condition

TL;DR: A cellular automata (CA) model, which adopts the findings of tenability analysis, is proposed to simulate the evacuation from a smoke-filled room and an experimental formula for estimating the survival duration when exposed to constant concentration of toxic gases in a static environment is extended.
