TLDR
A stochastic discrete automaton model is introduced to simulate freeway traffic and shows a transition from laminar traffic flow to start-stop- waves with increasing vehicle density, as is observed in real freeway traffic.
Abstract
We introduce a stochastic discrete automaton model to simulate freeway traffic. Monte-Carlo simulations of the model show a transition from laminar traffic flow to start-stop- waves with increasing vehicle density, as is observed in real freeway traffic. For special cases analytical results can be obtained.

Traffic flow in a Manhattan-like urban system

TL;DR: A metastability of the system is observed in the transition from saturation state to global deadlock state and the effect of advanced traveller information system (ATIS) and the traffic light switch strategy have been investigated.

The influence of nonmonotonic synchronized flow branch in a cellular automaton traffic flow model

TL;DR: The congested patterns upstream of an isolated on-ramp in a cellular automaton traffic flow model, proposed in the previous paper, are studied to help understand more about the outflow of wide moving jams or bottlenecks.

Speed and acceleration distributions at a traffic signal analyzed from microscopic real and simulated data

TL;DR: This methodology allows one to obtain vehicle trajectories near a signal control, and to measure individual vehicles speeds and accelerations at a microscopic level, and compares the results of repeated simulations of two microscopic software programs, using default parameters.

Nonlinear analysis of a new lattice hydrodynamic model with the consideration of honk effect on flux for two-lane highway

TL;DR: In this article, the influence of the honk on traffic flux is taken to construct a new lattice model for two-lane freeway, and the linear stability analysis is applied to obtain the stability condition involving the effect of the traffic flux on traffic flow.

A class of cellular automata equivalent to deterministic particle systems

TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that a local mapping f in a space of bisequences over {0, 1} which conserves the number of nonzero sites can be viewed as a deterministic particle system evolving according to the local mapping.
