TLDR
A stochastic discrete automaton model is introduced to simulate freeway traffic and shows a transition from laminar traffic flow to start-stop- waves with increasing vehicle density, as is observed in real freeway traffic.Abstract:
We introduce a stochastic discrete automaton model to simulate freeway traffic. Monte-Carlo simulations of the model show a transition from laminar traffic flow to start-stop- waves with increasing vehicle density, as is observed in real freeway traffic. For special cases analytical results can be obtained.read more

Dynamics of Two Equivalent Lanes Traffic Flow Model: Self-Organization of the Slow Lane and Fast Lane
TL;DR: A simple two-lanes traffic flow model using cellular automaton is investigated, and the appearance of several branches and hysteresis in the relation between traffic flow and car density is investigated.

The knowledge domain of crowd dynamics: Anatomy of the field, pioneering studies, temporal trends, influential entities and outside-domain impact
Milad Haghani,Milad Haghani +1 more
TL;DR: The analysis establishes that the field has exerted a high degree of influence beyond its borders while identifying these areas of influence and identifies two streams of activities labelled “empirical methods” and “crowd counting/visual crowd analysis” as the two youngest and currently hottest research streams of this field.
In Traffic Flow, Cellular Automata = Kinematic Waves
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proved that the vehicle trajectories predicted by a simple linear car following model, CF(L), the kinematic wave model with a triangular fundamental diagram, KW(T), and two cellular automata models CA(L) and CA(M) match everywhere to within a tolerance comparable with a single "jam spacing".

Extended speed gradient model for mixed traffic
Rui Jiang,Qing-Song Wu +1 more
TL;DR: The speed gradient (SG) model was extended to a mixture of different types of vehicles to study the steady state of the mixed traffic flow system, the formation of traffic jams at a traffic light switching from green to red, and the local cluster effect of the Mixed traffic system.

Time-Progressive Dynamic Assessment of Abrupt Cable-Breakage Events on Cable-Stayed Bridges
Yufen Zhou,Suren Chen +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, a time-progressive nonlinear dynamic analysis approach is proposed to investigate the abrupt cable-breakage event of a cable-stayed bridge, which may cause progressive failure such as zipper-like collapse.
