TLDR
A stochastic discrete automaton model is introduced to simulate freeway traffic and shows a transition from laminar traffic flow to start-stop- waves with increasing vehicle density, as is observed in real freeway traffic.Abstract:
We introduce a stochastic discrete automaton model to simulate freeway traffic. Monte-Carlo simulations of the model show a transition from laminar traffic flow to start-stop- waves with increasing vehicle density, as is observed in real freeway traffic. For special cases analytical results can be obtained.read more

Optimized traffic flow at a single intersection: traffic responsive signalization
TL;DR: A stochastic model for the intersection of two urban streets and some traffic responsive signalization algorithms which are based on the concept of cut-off queue length and cut-offs density are proposed.
A Multi-Agent Cellular Automata Model of Pedestrian Movement
TL;DR: The development of a multi-agent cellular automata model of pedestrian movement and decision making within the built environment will lead to a system that may serve as a tool in the design process to better understand how a design will influence user behaviour.

Waiting zones for realistic modelling of pedestrian dynamics: A case study using two major German railway stations as examples
Maria Davidich,Florian Wilhelm Geiss,Hermann Georg Mayer,Alexander Pfaffinger,Christian Royer +4 more
TL;DR: A model for waiting pedestrians based on cellular automata is proposed that is able to reproduce the observed pedestrian behaviour and it is shown that during rush hour standing pedestrians may prolong walking time by up to nearly 20%.

A survey on modeling and simulation of vehicular networks: Communications, mobility, and tools
TL;DR: This paper surveys the most significant simulation models for wireless signal propagation, dedicated short-range communication technologies, and vehicular mobility and provides handy hints and references to help determine the most appropriate tools and models.

Cellular automaton model simulating spatiotemporal patterns, phase transitions and concave growth pattern of oscillations in traffic flow
TL;DR: Simulations show that the improved model proposed can reproduce well the metastable state, the spatiotemporal patterns, and the phase transitions of traffic flow and can be simulated with a quantitative agreement.
