TLDR
A stochastic discrete automaton model is introduced to simulate freeway traffic and shows a transition from laminar traffic flow to start-stop- waves with increasing vehicle density, as is observed in real freeway traffic.
Abstract
We introduce a stochastic discrete automaton model to simulate freeway traffic. Monte-Carlo simulations of the model show a transition from laminar traffic flow to start-stop- waves with increasing vehicle density, as is observed in real freeway traffic. For special cases analytical results can be obtained.

Leveraging spatial abstraction in traffic analysis and forecasting with visual analytics

TL;DR: It is discovered that the traffic intensity and the mean velocity are interrelated in a spatially abstracted transportation network in the same way as at the level of street segments, which substantiates the approach to traffic analysis, forecasting, and simulation leveraging spatial abstraction.

An extended car-following model accounting for the honk effect and numerical tests

TL;DR: In this article, an extended car-following model is proposed to simulate traffic flow by considering the honk effect, and the stability condition of this model is obtained by using the linear stability analysis.

To Adapt or Not to Adapt - Consequences of Adapting Driver and Traffic Light Agents.

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of integrating co-adaptive decision-making regarding route choices (by drivers) and control measures (by traffic lights) are discussed in a scenario that exhibits features comparable to real-world networks.

Integration of a driving simulator and a traffic simulator case study: exploring drivers' behavior in response to variable message signs

TL;DR: In this paper, a driving simulator has been integrated with a traffic simulator at the network level to allow subjects to drive in a fairly realistic environment with a realistic traffic flow and density.

Exploring suitable traffic conditions for intermittent bus lanes

TL;DR: In this article, two cellular automata models for a roadway section with two lanes, one with no bus priority and the other with an intermittent bus lane, are built to study the characteristics of urban traffic flow.
