TLDR
A stochastic discrete automaton model is introduced to simulate freeway traffic and shows a transition from laminar traffic flow to start-stop- waves with increasing vehicle density, as is observed in real freeway traffic.
Abstract
We introduce a stochastic discrete automaton model to simulate freeway traffic. Monte-Carlo simulations of the model show a transition from laminar traffic flow to start-stop- waves with increasing vehicle density, as is observed in real freeway traffic. For special cases analytical results can be obtained.

Cellular Automaton Model with Dynamical 2D Speed-Gap Relation

TL;DR: It is argued that a model has the potential to reproduce the empirical and experimental results obtained from Next Generation Simulation data and the basic feature of time headway distribution is also qualitatively reproduced.

Nonlinear dynamics of traffic jams

TL;DR: In this article, a class of traffic flow models that capture the nonlinear dynamics of traffic jams are proposed, which originate from equations satisfied by the discrete traveling waves of some inviscid nonequilibrium continuum models.

Large scale simulation of CO2 emissions caused by urban car traffic: An agent-based network approach

TL;DR: One of the most promising strategies to decrease urban CO2 emissions is to focus on the use of electric cars, especially if it is combined with offering alternatives to private car traffic and incentives for telecommuting.

A hybrid parallel cellular automata model for urban growth simulation over GPU/CPU heterogeneous architectures

TL;DR: It is concluded that the hybrid parallelism of geospatial CA over the emerging heterogeneous computer architectures provides scalable solutions to enabling complex simulations and optimizations with massive amount of data that were previously infeasible, sometimes impossible, using individual computing approaches.

Ad Hoc Distributed Simulations

TL;DR: The ad hoc simulation approach is proposed as well as an optimistic synchronization algorithm and a prototype coupling in-vehicle transportation simulations are evaluated, yielding promising results.
