A simple method for the isolation and purification of total lipides from animal tissues.

TLDR
In this paper, the authors described a simplified version of the method and reported the results of a study of its application to different tissues, including the efficiency of the washing procedure in terms of the removal from tissue lipides of some non-lipide substances of special biochemical interest.

An improved mouse model that rapidly develops fibrosis in non‐alcoholic steatohepatitis

TL;DR: An improved CDAHFD model may be a mouse model of rapidly progressive liver fibrosis and be potentially useful for better understanding human NASH disease and in the development of efficient therapies for this condition.
Journal ArticleDOI

Rapid, sensitive spectrophotometric method for quantitative determination of sulfatides.

TL;DR: A rapid, sensitive spectrophotometric method for the analysis of sulfatides is described, applicable to theAnalysis of sulfolipids in tissue extracts and gives values similar to those obtained by previously published procedures.
Journal ArticleDOI

α-Synuclein occurs in lipid-rich high molecular weight complexes, binds fatty acids, and shows homology to the fatty acid-binding proteins

TL;DR: It is concluded that αS has biochemical properties and a structural motif that suggest it is a novel member of the fatty acid-binding protein family and may thus transport fatty acids between the aqueous and membrane phospholipid compartments of the neuronal cytoplasm.

Binding of arginine-rich (E) apoprotein after recombination with phospholipid vesicles to the low density lipoprotein receptors of fibroblasts.

TL;DR: It was established that the binding activity could be restored to the canine or human E apoproteins following apo-E l DMPC complex formation and phospholipids appear to function not only to bind the apoprotein but also to confer to the E apobrotein the requisite physical state or conformation required for its binding to the cell surface receptor.

Quaking mouse: isolation and characterization of myelin protein

TL;DR: A new technique, involving final purification on a continuous CsCl gradient, was utilized for the isolation of cerebral myelin from adult quaking mice, littermate controls and young (10‐day‐old) normal mice.

Preparation of lipide extracts from brain tissue.

TL;DR: A simple method is described for the preparation of extracts of total pure lipides from brain tissue by homogenizing the tissue with a chloroform-methanol mixture and washing free of non-lipide contaminants.

The quantitative estimation of cerebrosides in nervous tissue.

TL;DR: The values for cerebrosides found in the current literature include gangliosides, and other investigators (JOHNSON, MCNABB, and ROSSITER, 1950; CUMINGS, 1953; BLACKWOOD and CUMings, 1954) have neglected the ganglariosides.

Isolation of brain strandin, a new type of large molecule tissue component.

TL;DR: The isolation from brain tissue of a substance to which the name of strandin has been given for descriptive purposes is reported, which has the property of forming long strands that show perfect orientation under polarized light.
