A simple method for the isolation and purification of total lipides from animal tissues.

TLDR
In this paper, the authors described a simplified version of the method and reported the results of a study of its application to different tissues, including the efficiency of the washing procedure in terms of the removal from tissue lipides of some non-lipide substances of special biochemical interest.

Proposals of Sphingomonas paucimobilis gen. nov. and comb. nov., Sphingomonas parapaucimobilis sp. nov., Sphingomonas yanoikuyae sp. nov., Sphingomonas adhaesiva sp. nov., Sphingomonas capsulata comb, nov., and Two Genospecies of the Genus Sphingomonas

TL;DR: Based on the partial nucleotide sequence analysis of 16S ribosomal ribonucleic acid (rRNA), presence of unique sphingoglycolipids in cellular lipid, and the major type of ubiquinone, Sphingomonas gen. nov. is proposed.

Production of diglyceride from phosphatidylinositol in activated human platelets.

TL;DR: It is concluded that neither phosphatidic acid nor triglyceride is the source of the diglyceride, and Phosphatidylinositol appears to be the most likely source, both because its loss of radiolabel is sizable and rapid enough to account for the appearance of Radiolabel inDiglyceride.

Resistance of cell membranes to different detergents

TL;DR: It is found that the detergents differ considerably in their ability to selectively solubilize membrane proteins and to enrich sphingolipids and cholesterol over glycerophospholipid as well as saturated over unsaturated phosphatidylcholine.

Lipid storage in marine zooplankton

TL;DR: The various functions storage lipids serve during the life history stages of zooplankton are very complex and still not fully understood and hence offer a multitude of fascinating research perspectives.

Relationship of plasma polyunsaturated fatty acids to circulating inflammatory markers.

TL;DR: The notion that n-3 fatty acids may be beneficial in patients affected by diseases characterized by active inflammation is supported, as well as the fact that PUFAs were independently associated with lower levels of proinflammatory markers and higher levels of antiinflammatory markers independent of confounders.

Preparation of lipide extracts from brain tissue.

TL;DR: A simple method is described for the preparation of extracts of total pure lipides from brain tissue by homogenizing the tissue with a chloroform-methanol mixture and washing free of non-lipide contaminants.

The quantitative estimation of cerebrosides in nervous tissue.

TL;DR: The values for cerebrosides found in the current literature include gangliosides, and other investigators (JOHNSON, MCNABB, and ROSSITER, 1950; CUMINGS, 1953; BLACKWOOD and CUMings, 1954) have neglected the ganglariosides.

Isolation of brain strandin, a new type of large molecule tissue component.

TL;DR: The isolation from brain tissue of a substance to which the name of strandin has been given for descriptive purposes is reported, which has the property of forming long strands that show perfect orientation under polarized light.
