A simple method for the isolation and purification of total lipides from animal tissues.

TLDR
In this paper, the authors described a simplified version of the method and reported the results of a study of its application to different tissues, including the efficiency of the washing procedure in terms of the removal from tissue lipides of some non-lipide substances of special biochemical interest.

Effect of green tea catechins on plasma cholesterol level in cholesterol-fed rats.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that tea catechins exert a hypocholesterolemic effect in cholesterol-fed rats and increases fecal excretion of total lipids and cholesterol.
Journal ArticleDOI

The mechanism of NADPH-dependent lipid peroxidation. The propagation of lipid peroxidation.

TL;DR: NADPH-dependent lipid peroxidation occurs in two distinct sequential radical steps, initiation and propagation, which results in the rapid formation of thiobarbituric acid-reactive material and lipid hydroperoxides.

Probiotics improve high fat diet-induced hepatic steatosis and insulin resistance by increasing hepatic NKT cells

TL;DR: Probiotic treatment significantly improved the high fat diet-induced hepatic NKT cell depletion, insulin resistance and hepatic steatosis, and led to an improved sensitivity in insulin signaling.
Journal ArticleDOI

Hepatic lipid peroxidation in vivo in rats with chronic iron overload.

TL;DR: The presence of conjugated dienes in the subcellular fractions of rat liver provide direct evidence of iron-induced hepatic mitochondrial and microsomal lipid peroxidation in vivo in two models of experimental chronic iron overload.
Journal ArticleDOI

Intracellular Trafficking of Cholesterol Monitored with a Cyclodextrin

TL;DR: Biochemical and cytochemical studies reveal that cyclodextrin specifically removes plasma membrane cholesterol, and attenuated esterification of lysosomal cholesterol in Niemann-Pick C cells reflects defective translocation of cholesterol to the plasma membrane that may be linked to abnormal Golgi trafficking.

Preparation of lipide extracts from brain tissue.

TL;DR: A simple method is described for the preparation of extracts of total pure lipides from brain tissue by homogenizing the tissue with a chloroform-methanol mixture and washing free of non-lipide contaminants.
Journal ArticleDOI

The quantitative estimation of cerebrosides in nervous tissue.

TL;DR: The values for cerebrosides found in the current literature include gangliosides, and other investigators (JOHNSON, MCNABB, and ROSSITER, 1950; CUMINGS, 1953; BLACKWOOD and CUMings, 1954) have neglected the ganglariosides.
Journal ArticleDOI

Isolation of brain strandin, a new type of large molecule tissue component.

TL;DR: The isolation from brain tissue of a substance to which the name of strandin has been given for descriptive purposes is reported, which has the property of forming long strands that show perfect orientation under polarized light.
