A simple method for the isolation and purification of total lipides from animal tissues.

TLDR
In this paper, the authors described a simplified version of the method and reported the results of a study of its application to different tissues, including the efficiency of the washing procedure in terms of the removal from tissue lipides of some non-lipide substances of special biochemical interest.

A Model of Insulin Resistance and Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis in Rats : Role of Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptor-α and n-3 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acid Treatment on Liver Injury

TL;DR: This model mimics the most common features of NASH in humans and provides an ideal tool to study the role of individual pathogenetic events (as for PPARalpha down-regulation) and to define any future experimental therapy, such as n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid, which ameliorated the degree of liver injury.

Adipocyte lipolysis links obesity to breast cancer growth: adipocyte-derived fatty acids drive breast cancer cell proliferation and migration

TL;DR: It is shown that co-culture of breast cancer cells with adipocytes revealed cancer cell-stimulated depletion of adipocyte triacylglycerol, highlighting a novel and potentially important role for adipocyte lipolysis in the provision of metabolic substrates to Breast cancer cells, thereby supporting cancer progression.

Transport of cholesterol from the endoplasmic reticulum to the plasma membrane

M R Kaplan, +1 more
TL;DR: It is found that transport is dependent on metabolic energy, but that the maintenance of the high differential concentration of cholesterol in the plasma membrane is not an energy-requiring process.
Journal ArticleDOI

Enhancement of protein sensitivity for MALDI imaging mass spectrometry after chemical treatment of tissue sections.

TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of several solvent combinations for washing tissue sections were explored for a single mouse liver tissue block and the results were correlated to on-tissue measurements obtained for lipids.

Quantitative two-dimensional thin-layer chromatography of blood phospholipids

TL;DR: A detailed picture of the phospholipid composition of normal human erythrocytes and plasma was obtained by quantitative two-dimensional thin-layer chromatography on silica gel containing an alkaline component.

Preparation of lipide extracts from brain tissue.

TL;DR: A simple method is described for the preparation of extracts of total pure lipides from brain tissue by homogenizing the tissue with a chloroform-methanol mixture and washing free of non-lipide contaminants.

The quantitative estimation of cerebrosides in nervous tissue.

TL;DR: The values for cerebrosides found in the current literature include gangliosides, and other investigators (JOHNSON, MCNABB, and ROSSITER, 1950; CUMINGS, 1953; BLACKWOOD and CUMings, 1954) have neglected the ganglariosides.

Isolation of brain strandin, a new type of large molecule tissue component.

TL;DR: The isolation from brain tissue of a substance to which the name of strandin has been given for descriptive purposes is reported, which has the property of forming long strands that show perfect orientation under polarized light.
