A simple method for the isolation and purification of total lipides from animal tissues.

TLDR
In this paper, the authors described a simplified version of the method and reported the results of a study of its application to different tissues, including the efficiency of the washing procedure in terms of the removal from tissue lipides of some non-lipide substances of special biochemical interest.

Lipid metabolome-wide effects of the PPARγ agonist rosiglitazone

TL;DR: Observations suggest that the phenotypes induced by rosiglitazone are mediated by multiple tissue-specific metabolic variables, and metabolomics has excellent potential for developing clinical assessments of metabolic response to drug therapy.

Diabetes-Induced Accelerated Atherosclerosis in Swine

TL;DR: This large study demonstrates that a model of diabetes with humanoid characteristics, including hypertriglyceridemia and severe, accelerated atherosclerosis can be reproducibly induced and maintained in swine.
Journal ArticleDOI

Lipid peroxidation is an early event in the brain in amnestic mild cognitive impairment.

TL;DR: The data indicate that lipid peroxidation is present in the brain of MCI patients and suggest that oxidative damage may play a role in the pathogenesis of AD.

A method for separation of phosphatidylcholine, triacylglycerol, non-esterified fatty acids and cholesterol esters from plasma by solid-phase extraction.

TL;DR: This method represents an efficient, rapid alternative to TLC for isolation of these lipid classes from plasma and demonstrates no evidence of selective elution of individual fatty acid or CE species.

Antioxidant activities of phlorotannins isolated from Japanese Laminariaceae

TL;DR: The antioxidant properties of brown algal phlorotannins were evaluated using the inhibition of phospholipid peroxidation in the liposome system, and by determining radical scavenging activities against the superoxide anion and 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) as discussed by the authors.

Preparation of lipide extracts from brain tissue.

TL;DR: A simple method is described for the preparation of extracts of total pure lipides from brain tissue by homogenizing the tissue with a chloroform-methanol mixture and washing free of non-lipide contaminants.

The quantitative estimation of cerebrosides in nervous tissue.

TL;DR: The values for cerebrosides found in the current literature include gangliosides, and other investigators (JOHNSON, MCNABB, and ROSSITER, 1950; CUMINGS, 1953; BLACKWOOD and CUMings, 1954) have neglected the ganglariosides.

Isolation of brain strandin, a new type of large molecule tissue component.

TL;DR: The isolation from brain tissue of a substance to which the name of strandin has been given for descriptive purposes is reported, which has the property of forming long strands that show perfect orientation under polarized light.
