A simple method for the isolation and purification of total lipides from animal tissues.

TLDR
In this paper, the authors described a simplified version of the method and reported the results of a study of its application to different tissues, including the efficiency of the washing procedure in terms of the removal from tissue lipides of some non-lipide substances of special biochemical interest.

A linear Lowry--Folin assay for both water-soluble and sodium dodecyl sulfate-solubilized proteins.

TL;DR: Results were obtained with water-insoluble membrane proteins (myelin proteolipid and rhodopsin) solubilized by SDS and Sodium dodecyl sulfate incorporated in the test did not change the albumin standard curve.
Journal ArticleDOI

Morphological changes in the adipocyte during fat deposition and mobilization.

TL;DR: It was concluded that the quantity of intracellular fat is an important determinant of the lipid content of a depot; but the volume of an adipocyte is an imperfect measure of its contained lipid.
Journal ArticleDOI

A sensitive enzymatic assay for determination of cholesterol in lipid extracts

TL;DR: A procedure for the determination of free and total cholesterol in lipid extracts using cholesterol oxidase and peroxidase to catalyze the reaction of H2O2 with o-dianisidine to yield a colored product.

Digestibility of starch by rainbow trout: Effects of the physical state of starch and of the intake level

TL;DR: Starch digestibility in trout was investigated with two diets containing 70% of a common mixture and 30% corn starch which was either native or gelatinized, concluding that starch becomes a valuable source of energy when its digestibility is enhanced by gelatinization.
Journal ArticleDOI

Metabolsim of apoB and apoC lipoproteins in man: kinetic studies in normal and hyperlipoproteininemic subjects.

TL;DR: The kinetics of apolipoproteins B and C were studied in 14 normal and hyperlipoproteinemic subjects after injection of exogenously-labeled very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) particles, finding a slowdown of the stepwise delipidation process in all hyperlipemic individuals studied.

Preparation of lipide extracts from brain tissue.

TL;DR: A simple method is described for the preparation of extracts of total pure lipides from brain tissue by homogenizing the tissue with a chloroform-methanol mixture and washing free of non-lipide contaminants.
Journal ArticleDOI

The quantitative estimation of cerebrosides in nervous tissue.

TL;DR: The values for cerebrosides found in the current literature include gangliosides, and other investigators (JOHNSON, MCNABB, and ROSSITER, 1950; CUMINGS, 1953; BLACKWOOD and CUMings, 1954) have neglected the ganglariosides.
Journal ArticleDOI

Isolation of brain strandin, a new type of large molecule tissue component.

TL;DR: The isolation from brain tissue of a substance to which the name of strandin has been given for descriptive purposes is reported, which has the property of forming long strands that show perfect orientation under polarized light.
